| Quote ="jools"So because robbos small there's nothing wrong! He can't change his height but Ellis can alter his approach . Contact with the head is a penalty regardless of the players size or intent! Ellis should bend his back - which reading your forum sounds like is the problem with your team all round. Not much effort by the fans yesterday either- 10,500 mute hull fans- must be something in the water.
He will get a caution no more, which is right but to say you can't see anything wrong with that tackle suggests you are either lying to defend Ellis or are clueless about the rules.'"
The ref saw nothing wrong.
The video appears to show nothing wrong.
You suspect he won't be penalised for it.
Are you a bit slow?

On the Hudds forum you complained about Hull's 'spoiling tactics' but didn't mention your own side's slowing of the ptb. I'd suggest it's your knowledge of the [ilaws[/i of the game that is flawed.

Interesting, a Huddersfield fan commenting about another teams fans!! You say not much effort but at least there were 10,500 there unlike at Fart-town/Goat-Farm or whatever you're choosing to call it this week.

In fairness Hudds seemed to bring the vast majority of their home support yesterday which is no mean feat.

A grand total of 200-300? Wow. A side 2nd in table deserves 2000-3000 away support.

| Ellis attempted to make a legitimate tackle on Robbo.. End of the day he was running across the line and ended up getting hit.
If hudds fans want to complain, how about we talk about Crabtrees hit on Miller???

| Having seen the incident on Sky last night, I think it looked worse than it was. However, Eddie and his mates replayed the hit over and over again looking for something to criticise. RFL will look at it because of the attention it has received but should only caution at the most.

Robinson's knees bent as well before the tackle so I doubt his head was 5ft above the ground on impact. Ellis' left arm on the player so no shoulder charge whatsoever. Maybe we can get Rich Agar to demand an apology off Anderson. That said the league will probably give Ellis 3 matches and warn Crabtree for his tackle technique.

how is contact difficult to police? surely its easier to police than whether or not its deliberate! - its either contact or not contact with the head - the stills kindly shown by the hull fan above clearly show contact with the head so its a penalty.
any contact with the head is a penalty -That was the explanation given by the ref when mullaly was penalised for tackling gardner after he fell over into the tackle.

Like I said on your board, I would say in 90%+ the attackers head touches the defender. How can you completely avoid a person's head? I think you're getting mixed up with [uDIRECT[/u contact to the head, i.e. a swinging arm or a shoulder hit [uDIRECTLY[/u to the head.
As my stills kindly show, Ellis does no such thing. Therefore play on.

Looking at the incident again www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 0QOHKjNiTE (Official SL highlights link) it makes Andersons statement of a shoulder charge to the head look foolish.
Will he be forthcoming with an apology to Ellis or the "muppets"

Next Hudds game on TV I'll count the number of penalties, same with next FC game I go to (Catalan excepted).

This incident highlights a problem that RL has made for itself. Last week Roby, in the first half only, was giving high shots for contact around the chest. Second half he didn't really bother with any. Bentham let far more go yesterday that was genuinely high. In the Ellis/Robinson incident there was no way that Ellis could make a tackle on the small player already in a low knees-bent position without in some way connecting with the upper part of his body. Robinson effectively ran into Ellis' chest head first. If that isn't seen as an unfortunate but fair challenge then as far as I can see we either pack the game in all together or have a minimum (or maximum) height for players to be allowed to play it at all - clearly a ridiculous situation. If a small player can run at the line and duck low enough how can the average forward even make an effective tackle without being penalised most times ?
Another silly result of an attempt to over-sanitise a high impact collision sport I'm afraid. Way back when I started watching in the 70s a stiff arm was a stiff arm and was penalised often with a straight sending off. Everyone knew what a stiff arm was and the consequence of throwing one. What appears to have happened now is that the interpretation has been blurred so much so that perfectly fair shots across the ball/chest that might finish higher but without any real impact are penalised ten a penny but also the real bad high shots are not punished as much but instead put on report because "we weren't sure where the exact impact was". Players have started milking high shots and even appealing for them while the tackles are still going on. It makes it tougher for everyone from referees to players to fans and all needs a complete overhaul IMO.

Exactly. The inconsistency is what frustrates me, constantly tinkering with the rules doesn't help this

| After watching it again on SLHighlights, Tbh i can't see nothing wrong with the tackle..
Plain an simple it's robo taking on the line, Ellis behind him and robo just runs into him not knowing he's there.
Let huddersfield complain. If there calling for Ellis, Let us call Crabtree.

That simply doesnt happen.
The vast majority of tackles end with at least one defenders arm around the back of the ball carriers neck / head.
When the tackles treat from the ruck, how often do you see a tackle put his hands on the face of the ball carrier.
Robinson copped a hard, but fair challenge, it really is that simple to see from the stills and the video footage.

Contact with the head (on purpose or accidental) is a straight penalty nowadays, however you scored off it?
We had one not as bad with Mullally on Gardener against Saints at our spot and scored off that but it was brought back and disallowed and penalty given to Saints instead.
Seems to depend which team the infringement is against as to if the rule is followed or not!!!
Bentham is not a good ref and tends to have his own rulebook which is different outcomes for every team.

benthams' rulebook tends to lean towards the team at the top end of the table, we had him giving favourable decisions to warrington earlier in the season! must be all the earache he gets from the likes of breirs and brough chirping away at him for 80 minutes!
