Looks like a determined and positive moves to me we all knew wholesale changes are needed and Pearson Gentle and McRae will be judged on this acation. Gentle said we were short in the front row already so things must have moved on if we are to get rid of another prop. Sadly lets face it he didn't make an impact or a change in the game when he came off the bench as we all saw at Wakey really we all have to admit to that if were honest. Whether we like it or not O'Meley always did! perhaps its for the best and perhaps the prop we have been after from France has come off!

Horne next then..

The one odd thing is that he's gone with immediate effect and yet hasn't had a meeting with Bomber yet to sort out the details. Looks a little cart-before-horse, doesn't it?

It does make you wonder who will be next.

I can see him been back up for next season, we haven't any real cover at fb or in the halves.

I think Horne has said if you can find a replacement I'll retire . Looks like he's left it upto hull to find a replacement knowing he's finished deep down . His body isn't upto it no more . Half back and McDonnell to come in and I reckon Horne on the coaching staff . Sad but what's needed .

Back up 6/7 would be Nicklas, presumably, although I have a few doubts about him at SL level. This is presuming that another halfback was signed or we keep Horne there.

For fullback, I don't know. Shaul's the next person in-line from the academy but I wouldn't have thought him to be near ready yet. We would have to sign someone.

Horne's a better player than both Shaul and Nicklas right now, after 2013 who knows but to let Horne go without bringing cover in would be stupid.

Bit disappointed as I thought when he played he looked good, but has big problems with injuries and obviously isn't in Gentles plans.

Seems to me that PG has given players half the season to see what they can do. Those he feels haven't responded well enough are now being let go. With his own players in place for next season, he really has to be challenging for silverware.

I agree, I got shot down on here last year as I thought he was a poor signing due to his injury record and the length of the deal, however when he has played he has looked good, more to it I think, but I like the ruthlessness the club are now showing tbh.

A bit like the McKinnon departure, I'm disappointed that it's happened mid-season but think it puts us in a stronger position long term.
Surprised at the timing though: an apparently popular player telling his team mates he's leaving the day before a big game.

I just hope we don't go with pitts as one of our starting props next season. Whilst gentle seems to want a lightweight, mobile pack, I'm not convinced it's the way to go in the ESL.

How has Pitts gone on since signing for you. Looked a great prospect at wakey and for my money left us too early in his career to go to a club like Leeds.

I'm reassured by this in a strange way. If we're willing to cut loose contracted props we must be pretty damn confident that we have enough coming in, and that they are of the necessary standard. I'm now feeling more confident that our front row will be looking good next year.

It's a fairly reasonable observation, we keep crap like Horne and bin up and coming youngsters without giving them chance to even play.

Because we're releasing a player who, when fit has played for us every week of the season, when we're already short in the front row.

I think something must have happened here, O'Carroll seems a popular kid and surely if this was just a normal case of a player leaving they wouldn't have made a leaving speech the day before a game when he's presumably trained in the side all week?
