There are many wingers quicker, more skillful and who have better footwork in the NRL than Briscoe.

Fair point. I don't 100% agree with you about his Hull form however. I agree he has done some superb things, but in some games i've recently seen he has been a very average winger, one who makes no impact in a game, and has made some simple handling errors. I don't know if you went to the St Helens game but he was well below average. I'm also thinking of the Castleford game was it? Where he bombed a couple of certain tries. I'm not faulting the kid, nobody can be top of their game all the time. Just using the examples to stress why i think he's nowhere near the best winger in the world!
Best english winger by a country mile though

| Best winger in super league by a country mile. He scores tries off his own back that I just cant see any other winger in this league scoring, in-fact, the last british winger we had like him was Brian Carney. the tries against Saints at home and away, rovers at home, wakefield at home as examples. Fantastic balance, unbelieveably strong, great at returning the ball and very quick from standing start. The only thing that stops him from being world class is his inconsistency. Ive seen him take a bomb above his head under pressure, yet some days he cant take a kick with no-one round him. He drifts in and out of games too much for me.

| Quote ="JMR"If Murdoch really did make that statement...it says more about his own ignorance of the sport than anything about Tom Briscoe.
Not knocking Briscoe, but racking up hat-tricks against the likes of Salford mean nothing in the context of Murdoch's 'moment of madness'.
Let's be honest, Briscoe has been a hitherto disappointment on the international stage. He was even 'hooked' in favour of Peter Fox in the 2009 Four Nations and his most noteworthy contribution to last year's event was his dreadful mistake from a Lockyer kick which cost England a try at a critical stage.
Quote Until he even begins to make a semblance of impact in the international arena, he cannot possibly be mentioned in the same breath as NRL stars such as Vetuvei, Boyd, Nightingale, Hayne, Uate, Vidot, Yow Yeh, etc etc...let alone Pat Richards.'" '"
thats a bit like saying George best was e cos he only played for Northern Ireland. Tom Briscoe will probably never be a world cup winner thats true, but it doesnt mean he isnt/wont be as good as any of them other players, and are the Aussies full of world class wingers? if so why do they play 2 f/b's on the wings in the S.O.O games, (Boyb, Hayne)

Most outstanding three-quarters are interchangeable these days. Just because their clubs want them to get their hands on the ball as much as possible from full-back doesn't make Boyd or Hayne any less of a winger!
As for your first point, Hayne made far more impact playing for Fiji in the World Cup semi-final than Briscoe has in any international against the 'big two'.
Hayne, Boyd or any of the others mentioned wouldn't have embarrasingly spilled that 'dolly' catch that Briscoe did in the Four Nations either!

Tom is outstanding but not yet perfect. At the age of 20 I would not expect him to be TBF.
The real indicator of how good Tom Briscoe is would be to see how many clubs would be interested in signing him should Hull FC go bang (you wish!) and I confidently predict every Super League club would be in for Tom Briscoe.
I reckon he would be a top class centre as well given the chance.
From a selfish point of view I hope he stays at Hull but could also see him going to the NRL and proving himself as a top, maybe even outstanding back, on the biggest RL stage.
Just my opinion of course.

As an Eels fan I think Hayne is outstanding but have seen many a brain fart from him as well.
I may well use this in a future argument...

I don't think you would find an individual alive - with the possible exception of Craig Murdoch - who doesn't think that St George have three wingers better than Briscoe.
Morris, Nightingale and Boyd.
That said, I don't disagree that Briscoe has the attributes to play in the NRL and would/will be in demand before long.

| Glad i saw this thread. Was about to come on and ask a question about briscoe. There is a dream team topic on the wigan board which is quickly descending into bickering between wigan and wire fans about why certain players in their respective teams haven't been selected. However, i found it baffling that hardly anybody (in fact, possibly nobody) had included briscoe on the wing. Granted, we only see him once or twice a season plus the tv games, but whenever i have seen him he has looked top class. Easily the best english winger around and for what it's worth i thought he was one of the few who looked ok in the last 4 nations tournament.

I suspect if you asked the coaches of those 2 teams and probably all the Super League teams Tom Briscoe's name would come up. Tony Smith made his feelings quite clear about what he thinks about him after Hull defeated Warrington earlier in the season.

| We need to start challenging the top 4 in the next couple of years if we are going to keep him I reckon.
Even then with the favourable exchange rate down under, as much as it would pain me, it would make sense for him to prove himself in the NRL at some point, especially if he continues to improve at this rate.
