Shaul is attracting interest from other clubs too, although Cas have now apparently got Evalds - a bit surprised they are in a position to be announcing this as would have thought sorting out contracts for current OOC players would be a priority but a very good signing for them. Not having a permanent head coach could potentially be a real challenge for us recruitment wise, over and above the lack of a benefactor owner. Main hope is that we get Carlos and Kelly to stay.

Ratu and Carlos would be my priority. I really like Kelly and would prefer to keep him but do we really get value out of him? I dont know the stats but he does seem to miss a lot of games.

Kelly is a unique talent but id only renew him for one more year with poss an option for a 2nd based on games played, he is regularly in and out the team injured. Not his fault for the admin messing about with his ban this year though.
Would agree Carlos is a priority hes a 7+/10 every week.
Not that bothered if Shaul stays or goes, he hasnt improved since peaking a few years ago and it could be a good opportunity to freshen up our attack. Wynne will also want first team rugby soon.

| For me I'd release Shaul, not a bad player, but too limited and wont be cheap.
Houghton 1 year
Kelly 1 Year
Carlos 2/3 years
Rest 1 year deals.
That would mean Ellis, Shaul and Jones cap to play with.
Problem with this is no quota spots, so if we could persuade Nauloga to stay another year then I'd try and release Faramio.
Back row to replace Jones has to be the priority or a centre and move Grffin to the backrow.
If we could keep Savelio fit I wouldn't be that worried about Jones leaving.
Mike Mcmeeken, Harvey Livett or Ben Currie would also be options (All out of contract)
I also be tempted to make an offer to George Lawler.

| Shaul can go, in fact I’d be keen to get rid. Rd 1 against Leeds was his only good game I can remember in three seasons.

| One thing the club need to try and do,is to get the coaching situation sorted, when if they appoint Last or my choice Purtill until the end of the season.

Theyd have to or Sonny Bill would take Toronto over the cap on his own!
Pearson stated we are approx £200k over the cap as it is, which I assume is the added extra of getting Fonua, so not all our squad can play currently.
It is make or break time for the likes of Lane, Mantongo, Fash, Harris, Scott, Bienek, Brown, Cator etc who are now at an age where they should be nailed on 1st teamers but are in and out the squad. A younger batch of players will want their chance also.

He meant we're spending £200k more than the cap, but dispensations (eg Ratu only counts half his salary) bring us below the actual cap.
Top 25 earners already count on the cap, so those who "can't play" are probably loaned out already.

Evalds should have been a priority for us.
Far better player than Shaul and just as fast.
Problem is these lads from Lancs just dont seem to settle here unless they move home

| Two fullbacks already in Jake Connor who played amazing their against us for Huddersfield and a potential star in Connor Wynne. Both have far more creativity than Shaul.
I honestly think the club Hull sentimentality will mean both Shaul and Houghton are offered new deals, i think Houghtons will be interesting as personally and i think a few may agree. Hes now on a downward slope in terms of performances yet hes one of our highest earners.
Shrewd cap management would put sentiment aside offer him alot lesser terms, if rejected then release him and promote Johnstone who looks good to first choice hooker.

we need to be like saints and wigan, no sentiments, saints knew when sean long was cooked and let go as he was past his best (typical we'd sign him then)...time fc started doing the same

| Totally agree, i hope weve learned from recent times, the only problem is i think we have the club hull mentality which i think clouds judgement.
Im hoping any new coach or Purtill does away with it, and as you say do as Saints and Wigan do.

| Think we’ll retain Houghton, but on a reduced salary.
Like mentioned earlier, the younger players need to step up. Can see Cator making a real go of it TBH. Not sure on the rest.
Don’t think there’ll be any room for passengers going forward.
Thing is, we are crying out for new ideas coaching wise but just can’t see it happening with the way things are. Unfortunately.

That wouldn't surprise me.
However, SL and the club in particular, are on the brink, and people seem to think it's business as usual. Crazy.
Survival might mean a squad which bears little resemblance to today's.
That will depend on how realistic the players are. The cracks are already starting to appear.
The only saving grace is that all clubs are in the same boat (apart, unfortunately, for 3 or 4).
So the strong will get even stronger, and the rest of us will struggle to compete.
Hope I've got this totally wrong, but......

| Thing is, clubs may have benefactors, but their core businesses will also be suffering now and they’ll have employees who need paying.
Protecting the business which gives them an income will be their priority, not expenditure on rugby clubs.
Whatever type of games comes back to us, it will be dramatically different to what we’ve known.

Exactly, Just having a Club to support at the end of this will be a bonus!
There will be a few players moved on by Hull FC in the next few months. If Clubs can afford a fee , they will be sold .
