Fair enough. Would be a good partner for Long, though.

I like Horne, and he's local which makes him better, but to suggest he's been anywhere near Maguire's class at any point in his career is just a step too far. Maguire has been one of the comp's outstanding individuals (not just halfbacks) since coming into the whinos team. Horne was a young player of great promise, who had a couple of excellent seasons, but has been poor for as many. Our over reliance and blind faith in his waning talents has hindered us greatly over recent years.

I agree. He's improved on the creative side over his career but is still fairly ordinary in that respect IMO. To me his attributes have always been more in line with the fullback position, other than his defence. If he'd been stronger in defence I think he might have played there instead.

I'd be very happy with those two coming in for next season but I imagine the Sammut reference is just them latching on to an old rumour.

I'd be very happy with Sammut and BJB. I think Sammut is looking to return home in 2012 so he would seem to fit the bill for us.

| Crusaders need money so maybe a small fee could persuade them to let him go, I would hope to wrap him up for a bit longer than a year if we paid a fee though.
Anyone know if work visa's are linked to an employer, i.e. would he need a new one if he transferred to us ?

| No point in bringing Sammut in for just a season if he is looking to go home in 2012, won't happen, I can see BJB getting a fair bit of game time for Leeds this season too, just looks like old rumours being recycled.

| Calders would be a massive injury risk, we have options at wing already, why bother with the risk.

Agreed far more important positions we need to strengthen, I would be massively underwhelmed by calders resigning, harsh but true.

Dave Hadfield from the Independent wrote a wish list for 2011 which included the below:
'That the lads who recently beat the Australian Schoolboys get the opportunities they deserve in Super League. They aren’t all ready, but several certainly are. Besides, if the price of playing 18 year old Englishmen rather than 33 year old Australians is that Super League gets weaker in the short term, isn’t that a price worth paying?'
I wonder how many fans agree with the above statement?

I would say in our case quite a few people would agree with that as we have a tendency to sign "over the hill" Australians although fitz hasn't turned out to bad.
I would much rather us give the kids ago then sign an unknown or an average australian, hasn't done Wigan any harm has it?

I would be happy to move Briscoe to centre and give Reece Lynn a chance on the wing but we need a playmaker and don't have one available at the club at the moment. While Nicklas is a prospect I don't think he is known for being that kind of player.

I agree and I think Wigan are a good example of a club showing confidence in their young players. I also think certain overseas signings add plenty of value to clubs and Super League in general but every club is guilty of signing the 'average' overseas player rather then giving a young player his chance.

Got to say bud, cannot see after two substitue games on the wing and one in the centre how he can be judged as not good enough yet.

We do need a playmaker as a matter of urgency in my opinion and having seen Nicklas play a few times I do not think he is that type of player. The pool of English playmakers is not too great so i would not be surprised if we look overseas for this.
That said I would be happy with the already mentionned Gareth Moore from Batley spending a year at Hull playing and training alongside the likes of Long and Fitz before they retire. He looks to have the attributes to be a Super League playmaker of the future I guess he just needs to be given the chance.
