Mobile internet is dogturd. I used a dongle for a while and it was bloody useless. Slow, unreliable and expensive. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone - unless I really disliked them.

With all the iPhone etc. flooding the market the 3G broadband service is only going to get worse too!

It wont be handsets that affect as most nnow have wifi
The main issue is dongles. As already mentioned dongles are a waste of time anyways.

Just a word of advice with mobile companies and contracts... 'Unlimited' tends to mean nothing of the sort. An 'unlimited' Internet usage, usually means 1gb per month, and charged afterwards.. 'Unlimited' texts on my plan is a max of 4000 a month... not that I'd ever go over that, but it's hardly unlimited is it!

Two things are driving the problem - smartphones present one, but the bigger problem at the moment is mobile broadband services - used by dongles.

All that will happen is those networks with poor 3g coverage will restrict high data usage ( like o2 with iplayer and sky player) to wifi only

I'm sure I read somewhere that 3 are limiting new dongle connections in certain areas as their network cant cope already

so, going out and buying a new shiny iPhone 3G is a bit pointless then?

Na not really I've got an iphone 3g and only really use 3g for web browsing/ listening to radio although 02's 3g network is poor i dont really notice any problems.

Whenever i want to stream or download large amounts of data I'm either at home or work so just use wifi.

on the rare occassion i want to use large amounts of data away from these 2 places there are normally wifi connections available (bars, trains etc)

All I'll say is you can't beat a good wired connection! All this wireless stuff, as practical as it may be, always ends up with problems: either no connectivity or slow connectivity. Things always work better with a wire!

Agree completely and as for Karoo......never have any bother with it...its fast and gets me to where i want to be....ok it goes down occasionally...did a couple of wks ago but was repaired within 2hrs,

Not in my experience. Wireless both at work and at home, no problems with connectivity whatsoever. I also use wireless via my iPod when out and about - also works seamlessly.

Wireless at home via a router is fine nowadays the only reason you would run a lan cable from the router to a computer would be for the very small improvement you would get for online gaming.

The usual problems people have are incorrect positioning of the wireless router, how do you expect it to broadcast from inside a cupboard, or behind the sofa!!!

Has anyone else had problems with the picture quality of their sky hd? Ive got a 2 yr old lg 720p hd tv and my colours are like contours of colour. its like watching in in 256 colours. Ive changed the hdmi cable for a better one and fiddled with all the settings i can see but to no avail. Ive got sky coming back down to have a look but not for another week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 3 mobile dongle and i have no problems with it hardly ever. ok its not lightning speed but it does the job. I wont pay karoo while they have the monopoly. I hear things are going to change soon tho with them offering similar deals as sky with an all in one package.
