No point in having crowds back if nobody turns up.
I reckon 2022 is a very likely outcome.

All vaccine dependent I guess - both finding one then distributing & administering at scale. Maybe mid 2021 and a part season?

| The goal posts are moving all the time, a German study reckons 10 times as many people in that country have caught it (and may have already acquired immunity) with no ill effects, so maybe a vaccine is just part of the solution.

The Roche antibody test seems a significant step forward, but wonder how they will get the volume needed (and also requires blood test by medics, not a home test job)

Indeed, there isn't even anecdotal evidence that having had C-19 once provides immunity, let alone proven impirical medical evidence. There are 14 (current) variants, it is an RNA type virous so mutation is slow but continuous. If natural immunity to any RNA was so straightforward we wouldn't have seasonal flu jabs for influenza, some people (especially who take posts on Facebook as fact, without reading the wider science) don't seem to understand that C-19 hasn't been an actual cause of death in the vast majority of cases, the usual cause is Pneumonia and/or other underlying conditions, similar to Flu, C-19 can cause lung problems and sepsis, but they are uncommon that is why the reports say "[iwith[/i COVID-19" not " of COVID-19."
The world will never (my view) get back to what we used to call "normal", even if COVID-19 miraculously disappeared overnight people would still have the modified behaviour we see every day, how much convincing would you need to do to get a lot of thpse deemed "at risk" previously to suddenly start going on aeroplanes etc. These individuals are risk averse most of the time, doubley so now.

| For the record im not on social media. For the record its my opinion.
Yes the deaths have been tragic and unfortunate goes without saying. But i think the virus will fizzle out in the not so distant future. time will tell who is correct
Premiership players back in training in ten days, nice positive step forward. German league resumes shortly, NRL resumes end of the month, more positive steps forward.

Odd as an introductory post but Roche were the ones that produced Tamiflu and ripped the country off to £0.6Bn and still haven't paid it back, they did the same to the US, think there's a lawsuit for $1.5Bn against them for lying/not releasing their own findings, so I wouldn't trust Roche and anything they produce. They deliberately and continuously over years, withheld documents that would prove it was utterly ineffective and had terrible side effects to boot including death.
The current SARS-COV2 test also gives positives for H1N1 amongst other respiratory diseases hence why the Office for National Statistics have been instructed to include all influenza and pneumonia deaths/cases in with COVID19, the whole thing is a shambles and talks of vaccines being ready in anything under 18 months and they be effective are dubious at the very least. We know from that vaccines for novel viruses aren't very effective, the NHS itself gives us a clue as to how poor vaccines just for influenza are in some years, particularly the older age groups.
So any reliance on a test/vaccine before society/rugby moves back to normal shouldn't be something we rely on, even less so when subtle modification in who we visit and when plus washing hands proves to be far more effective at reducing virus/bacteria transmission than immunisations, and it works for all viruses and bacteria and is immediate, low cost, virtually zero side effects.
Personally I can't wait for the season to start back up again, the buzz of being in a crowd when your team is playing good rugby is hard to beat, can't wait for the local amateurs to get going and see the kids back on the field starting their journey with the great game. Hoping to be a bumper crowd for the first game.
Maybe the way the game is run might change (likely not) and how the powers that be run the sport better, look at how to improve the financials, what is actually holding the sport back in a more meaningful manner to help secure the sport going forward, at least better than we've seen, such that the sport has a firmer footing throughout all leagues top to bottom and be able to have better planning for financial situations. We only need look at the Bulls fiasco to see how badly things can go due to poor administration.

if we concentrate on RL, that modified behaviour damages the sport, even if people are told it's ok, it's still in some people's heads because it's been rammed down people's throats almost every minute of every waking day for the last few months. The way those who run the sport will have a huge input into how people are able to congregate/admission rules to sporting venues. They in turn are influenced heavily by what's been said day in day out.
Just want to get back in the throng of a big crowd and watch some top level rugby.

Loan used to compensate clubs for the games that are played behind closed doors.
Wondering if they use the pay per view idea using sky to watch games, how the income from that would affect the application for losses for playing behind closed doors
If you acrue 160k through pay per view, will that come off the amount you recieve in compensation, thats if the pay per view idea is implemented

Had they used the phrase 'herd [imentality[/i' as opposed to 'herd [iimmunity[/i' people would have balked at the principle of it. (Similar to the civil liberties groups about the app). What they have done is, quite cleverly, modified behaviour without appearing to directly do so.
Very little about tne situation has changed, the hand washing and general distancing and vastly improved hygiene has now become accepted and, more importantly, execpted. We will slowly see urinals etc. largely removed, pick n mix, buffets etc. will not make a return, and certainly not in the form we were used to.
The things that wont change, that I think should, are the spitting in the street and on football / sports pitches, selling of fruit and veg from stalls next to busy roads, sharing of drinks bottles etc.
But, back on topic, we are a long way from the season re-starting, we are basically going to follow what the PL does, they have much bigger resourcesand influence, when they agree a model with government it will be much easier to amend it for an RL purpose than invent our own.

Quote ="48756c6c20 524c4643" Very few are able to understand the subtle difference in terminology used regarding deaths, the Office for National Statistics produces weekly figures for deaths by underlying cause, this is the only way they can 'code' a death, but they've added another section to include deaths where there is just a mention of a virus or even just a suspicion of a virus present and neither of those scenarios were underlying cause.'"
At a whole population level, I’m not sure those subtleties matter too much - you can just look at the number of registered deaths. It is crude and there may be some confounding factors (although I can’t think of anything major), but when the change from recent norms is this striking, I think the message is pretty clear.

At a top line level that seems a little unlikely, even allowing for an April vs January comparison. Perhaps I’m misreading it.
Are you sure it is based on a like-for-like comparison? For example, are the definitions being used or the lengths of the periods being compared the same? Whereabouts did you see this?
