I have been to the st Esteve ground a few times ,,,,,it has an east to west outlook so sun will be on it all the time and the stands are very small so they wont cast much shadow onto the pitch,,,,,,,think the Carlisle RL ground when they played at the railway pitch.........and i have been told be a friend from the Pia club that went to the game scouting the opposition that that game should not have been played either as the pitch was bad in a few area's

I have been to loads of postponed matches years ago, its part of the game even in the south of France. What's the odds on next weekends match with Cas suffering the same fate or even ours at the KC, the area around the stadium has not got underground heating and heavy freezing /snow could make the area unsafe.

One bad day, late 70s early 80s we where away at Leigh I think and the snow came down over the top and it was cancelled I remember about 4 or 5 coaches pulling into Hartshead moor services. We had no match and this was in the days of no mobiles and limited local radio. A quick check around and Donny was open for business and off we all went, that was a great day out and rugby at its rawest.

I did not expect or get any money back from anyone for last minute cancelled matches, you just make the best of it. Its the replay we need worry about and we should resist any attempt to swap our home for an away and a home match mid week. Any match re arranged mid week is going to be awkward for both teams, but if its arranged for a week in which both teams play in England on a Sunday then both teams set off with the same handicap.

Oddly, one of the necks furthest out has been yours. The vast majority of people on this thread have been a bit cross at worst. You'll have to forgive them for expressing some concern about things that affect their club and fellow fans.

BTW - some interesting information from a couple of Catalan fans on the VT and Catalan forum this morning. Definitely sounds like incompetence caused the game to be called off, but on the part of the local council who run the ground rather than the Catalan club.

TBF nobody would expect a game to be called off in South of France. Why spend thousands of pounds on something you'll hardly ever use. I live in Mallorca for most off the year and its been snowing for the first time in years but i won't be getting and form of heating system because i will hardly ever use it.

Oh I understand why nobody will be installing undersoil heating down there any time soon. But some pitch covers would hardly break the bank (and might even have been available - that's not clear) and not watering the pitch would have been a sensible move.

You need to read that again, preferably in conjunction with his post on the Catalan forum. He doubts the 'malfunction' excuse and questions why the sprinklers were even in use at the time.

Confirmation from an official source? No. However the same story is coming from a variety of unofficial sources including Smailes, FC fans who were there, and Catalans fans. Not to mention the photos and video from the pitch inspection.
