| Quote ="Locko's Luck"I think that's more down to the "p155heads" as you call them being part of a better balanced and injury free team.
I know it's been said many times, but injurys' have not helped us at all, and a large proportion of blame can/should be directed at the club for not getting more depth around the organisers of the team.
That said:-
How many other clubs have had their main play makers and full backs; walk out of a contract, suffer season long/career finishing/threatening injuries, lose an international winger through off field shenanigans, and now have an international player go home with a year of his contract still to run?'"
Fair enough, but whatever the mitigating circumstances, our recruitment of both first choice and cover in the pivots has been what my kids would call "random" since 2007 (and I'm being kind):
Full back - binned off Briscoe to accomodate a utility back/hooker at FB. Said utility back/hooker was then injured more than not, requiring us at time to play the likes of Byrne and Hall there until Richard Horne suggested he should be given go himself. We then sign Tansey, another utility back/HB, as first choice FB, who blows hot and cold and has 2 disciplinaries in one season.
Off half - Richard Horne plays around 50% of matches since 2007 due to injury and illness, and some of those at full back or scrum half. Cover provided by Danny Washbrook (loose forward) with no kicking game to speak of.
Scrum half - After Cooke and Brough go, we've recruited:
Head (talented player, but crocked)
Dykes (talented player, albeit more a 6 than 7 in Aus, but at the very end of his career and crocked)
Thorman (ripping it up at York one year later)
Long (talented player, at the very end of his career, but crocked)
Cover provided by either Tommy Lee, with no kicking game to speak of, or Shaun Berrigan (Hooker/Centre)
Hooker - After Swain:
Berrigan. Played in every position but prop. A glimmer of success in the emergence of Danny Houghton.
In the words of the one-hit Eighties wonders Orange Juice, I think in terms of our pivot strategy we should "Rip it up and Start Again".

Sensible. I would absolutely love to see Chase at FC, but not at that price.

One of the things that has really let us down over the 3 years or so is our kicking game. We used to have Cooke/Horne/Brough kicking in open play along with others who chipped in now and then so teams were not sure who was getting the ball etc. Nowadays on any given day teams know exactly who is going to be kicking in open play 99% of the time. The 1% is covered for when Lauaki has a go

I agree with ye,but its common sense that there is to be signings announced now berro has gone and burnett has gone out on loan,it would be a boring place without rumours mate.

His accuracy tends to be very good - the one concern i have is his technique - he doesnt kick with a lot of power so the ball doesnt kick on very oftern after bouncing, so although it does split winger and full back it doesnt pressurise them too much, or, he kicks the ball at the bottom resulting in the ball stopping dead when it hits the floor
If he can sort this then he is a useful kicker to have due the angle advantage the acting half has

Pretty much what I said to be honest, my point was whatever he did or didnt do here he has seemed to have got his act together now, and anyone who says he's not what we need in on the field is kidding themselves in my opinion, it's a non starter though as Hudds paid a lot of money for him, and are not going to let an asset like him go.

As things stand at the moment with both players, I would take Brough over Long anyday. You would likely to get a full season out of him which leads to consistency at 7, has possibly the best kicking game in SL and can play 'off the cuff' style rugby.
