I've never considered Richard Horne to be the brightest player on the park and one of his major failings is he is an all-round player. When he finds a gap, invariably he hasn't the pace to finish his break. Whiting is similar in that respect, yet he doesn't seem to be castigated in the same way. His long-kicking game is crap but that's been known for years, so why put him into the position of kicking long?
He has proved a great servant to the club, he still has a lot to offer on the field, full-back would be an ideal posititon, given his skills, limitations and all-round commitment. That's not sentiment talking, that's watching his game and wondering who we'd replace him with given what's available and affordable. Coming back from a serious neck injury and diabetes takes a certain level of mental toughness - a quality that cannot be bought. That comes with a love of the game and more importantly a love of the team you are playing for.
For my money, Rich Horne can still bring something to the game, if for nothing else, he can show upcoming players that it's not all about how many tries you score or how many tackles you break or make. It's about how you can contribute to making the TEAM a functioning unit. That even after suffering personal setbacks, you can still go out there and perform and more importantly, help others perform at a better level.
Every SL team has at least one Richard Horne in their squad, some of us just seem to be more inclined to dwell on his negatives than any positives he may bring.'"

| I think rich horne is a legend.. yes hes not as good as he use to be before his neck injury. (i think that does play in his mind abit though)
but with regards to him being at half back, i dont think he should be there now. his best position is full back but not other coach put him there.
But horne has always played his best for us in my mind

| Cod heads post was spot on. I'm sick of people on here slagging Horney and I wonder if they were born when he made his debut.
He was 16 if I recall and played a stupid amount of games when should have been eased into he side. The man is FC through n through has looked after himself and been a great pro.
I agree last few years not been fantastic but think about the illness etc and remember the bravery in the cup final v saints when he was like a skeleton.
Just show some respect to an FC legend.

Maybe, but not a major part of we'd have kept all of the local lads we've let go in recent years. Coddy has it spot on with Horne, he should have been moved to full back years ago but has still put his body on the line for our club, and has sustained serious injury in the meantime. However good or bad his current performances (I think they're still pretty decent on the whole) he deserves a hell of a lot more respect than certain people give him.

| I cant believe some people on this board, RH has consistently put his hand up to play when obviously not 100% fit yet other so called stars have gone missing in games & are still hero worshipped.Dont forget this lad has been putting his body on line since he was 16 years of age.

Absolutley spot on. Horne is a full back, isn't it a coincidence that our last two wins have come with him at 1? Also the good friday game McKinnon went off then Horne went to 1 and we got three trys. He is a better player when he can join the line and his one on one tackle on Mika proves he is a good enough tacKler. Safe under the bomb, not the fastest but Wellens, Briscoe and Webb are not but they have had good careers at fullback. IMO.

| Horne is a Hull FC Legend. If the club had a Hall of Fame he would be in it.
Yes he can't kick. Never has been able to. If he is given the ball to kick then that is poor coaching IMO.
He is not as good a player now as he was in his youth, but guy has had a 14 year career at the upper end of one of the hardest contact sports. Every damaging hit he has taken, he has taken in a Black and White shirt. Every hit, for our enjoyment.
This season he has outplayed Seymour IMO and deserves his place in the squad.

One rumour I have heard is if we sign Brough Whiting won`t be too happy about it.Only what I have been told from someone who reckons he is in the know.Could be total B.S. of course.

| Horne's overrated. Simple as. Purely because he's local. He may have had some decent games years ago, but thats no reason to keep him now. Remove that stupid inside-ball pass that he makes and he has nothing. His step, fend and pace have all gone.
All the overseas HB's we've had have been lambasted on here, but the local one is a "legend". Clearly the insular reputation that Hull folk have is still evident.

| Has it been confirmed anywhere that Horne is out?
If he is, I reckon we'll move Briscoe to fullback and have Lineham on the wing.
