Why are they all out of position? Lineham has played on both wings for us, Yeaman is always on the left yes, Crooks has played both centre spots for us and Briscoe is our left choice winger but has played on the right for England?

no such thing as a derby friendly and after pg said that wont happen again last season i belived him. as i have said before talk is cheap

yeamans poor hands(and strong defence) make him ideal right centre to thwart the oppositions strike centre. crooks n briscoe looked a lot better as a strike pairing last season.then challenge the 2 new lads to prove they are better,for me so far the are not but hope i am proved wrong

Get over it, as disappointing as the result and style of play was it was a meaningless friendly and I'm sure PG will have seen what he needs too and will work on it.
Get yourself to Leeds and stop sulking over this 1 game, we did alright last season after a similar start.

The way things are developing, I recon we will become the No1 team by 2015, just in time to celebrate the clubs 3rd Jubilee (150 years) in style.

it should be treat like any other friendly you use a game like that in pre season to get use to each other and play rugby not go putting big hits in and getting injured like they did don't believe all that no derby friendly sh*te its a friendly end of nothing for winning or losing all the negative fc fans need to judge half way through the season or near the back end not after a pointless game.

I'd rather not play Rovers in pre season in all honesty, takes the shine off the derby during the season.

That's how I feel and didn't bother going this year. I honestly don't care if we take a pasting in a friendly against rovers or anyone if it gives the coaching staff what they need from the game

That's where it's confusing though because the coaching staff were surprised at what they saw. Andy Hay in his interview after the match talked about more senior players maybe playing at York than initially intended and about our guys being out enthused and needing to learn from some of the younger players and the opposition. Maybe it's told them that we're not as ready as they thought we were? But that after saying that everything was better than last year , that players understood what they needed to do without being told etc etc only a day or so before the game. Commercial consideration may have no bearing on PG but I'd have thought that if you're going to have a Derby then it has to be used to create a feelgood factor if at all possible in order to sell more passes and merchandise and so an enthusiastic , at least , performance is required.
If the players have been complacent then hopefully this will shake them out of it and the game will have had some value but I just can't believe that we went into it purely as a practice match with no concern for the result and certainly not that we held back to avoid injuries as some have implied which is frankly laughable.

I agree, too, and didn't go either. I could understand why we had it when Rovers weren't in SL, but now that they are I'd sooner we played someone else pre-season. We now play them too often, too many people can't accept it as a friendly and overreact massively to how it goes, and there always seem to be more injuries than in other friendlies (fortunately not for us this year). With it getting higher attendances than other options I don't see it going away any time soon, however.

In the 70's and 80's when we played on Boxing Day there were injuries, it will always be KR's biggest game of the season, we may as well put a trophy on a high shelf and let Grudgell claim it if he's tall enough.

i agree about the buzz your your feeling and would not swap PG for any other super league coach i have also allways respected AP however if the friendlies are just a yard stick to measure our progress we should be playing leeds wire wigan saints (teams above us) not our city rivals

The ONLY reason we have a pre season friendly against Rovers is that it generates more income than any other game. Any other team and the revenue would have been reduced by at least 1/3

fare comment but i bet rovers get a bigger slice of the pie than the others would (do you think NH would let them for play for peanuts)

And so they should as their fans make up a sizeable portion of the crowd. I imagine they'll get an agreed portion of gate receipts after costs. The higher the crowd, the more both clubs benefit.

so the exta fans attending is not in our pockets so what do you gain(it being a derby crowd) you lose by giving them more.factor in the higher risk of injuries (for once we had good luck) and it dont seem woth it to me. ps and thats not mentioning the momentum it gives the reds
