I reckon you're not far off there, although if he received the maximum punishment for that grading would they have been able to ban him for an extra game?

As stated a few days ago the system is unfit for purpose as unfortunately it is, and always has been, unable to mete out punishments in a consistent and fair fashion. The only logical conclusion that can be drawn from the steady stream of evidence is that the system is essentially corrupt and bent.

Credit to Hull for publicising their obvious disgust at this contemptible joke of a procedure.

Agree with that. This needs to be brought further into the open. McIlorum got only 3 matches for breaking someones jaw. 2 matches for an innocuous third man tackle is insane. Welham didn't get a ban for a headbutt, so on what basis are punishments meted out?

The whole disciplinary system needs a thorough examination by those in power. Irrespective of the fact that Mickey is our player, I would have challenged the decision because the original one was wrong and the fact the second panel agreed tells me everything about them.

Anyone looking at that would be more than justified in thinking the system is bent. Both incidents are against the same team 1 week apart. In the Wigan incident the players all appeal and a penalty and sin bin follow. In the Hull incident not a single player appeals for anything and a penalty isn't given. Wigan incident no resulting ban. Hull incident is a 2 match ban.

And for the record, Tansey's ban is even more of a joke.

That's a huge part of it for me. FC did exactly right to appeal it, on the basis that the maximum for the grade (which Paea got) can't be increased.

The original decision was wrong, certainly based on the precedent of the Flower one from the week before, but one set of judges are going to back their mates, especially in the RFL backyard.

The whole process is flawed imho, and needs a rapid overhaul, before it gets any worse.

It does Chris, it is a massive flaw in protecting players, whilst allowing the game to retain its physical nature. If Paea had come in from the other side, he would have been cleared as the video is inconclusive. You know my thoughts based on last year - I came home with a players blood on my shirt when an off the ball happened right in front of me where I was stood on the touchline; but because it wasn't on the dvd it was NFA.

you can add to that the castleford coach coming out and backing paea as well. i also agree with the comment about the tansey ban - ridiculous decision

I'm going to count the number of similar tackles in the televised games this week and see how many of them get two match bans. Sad, I know, but the game is becoming a farce entirely because of the governing body.

I totally agree with you. When you continually see the trend of the same clubs receiving different treatment, it's hard to interpret it any other way.

Exactly. If it had been a bad tackle worthy of a two match ban, you would expect at least one Cas player to react in some way.

Unfortunately its been the same for as long as I can remember. If Paea had made that same tackle a week before a cup final he would have been cleared. Bowen was cleared purely to allow him to play in the WCC. We had Poore banned for 2 matches for a punch yet Morley nutted and threw a punch and never even went to red hall, the lack of consistency is shocking.
The other thing with the retrospective banning is who does it actually benefit, certainly not the team who had the offence committed against them. In televised games the ref should use the VR / big screen to make sending off decisions, thought the ref in the Wales Scotland RU game was spot on the other week, he yellowed a guy for a head high, watched the replay and called him back and gave a red.

I watched it earlier and I couldn't believe it. A mate next door called in for 5 minutes and I showed him it. He's Red and White through and through and he had to watch it three times as he couldn't see anything in it.

Comparing it to the Flowers incident just makes it worse. It's the exact same challenge but Paea gets a completely different punishment? Makes no sense at all.

I thought the RFL was pretty incompetent before this but they've just managed to sink to a whole new level. Bravo RFL, bravo!

Absolutely. The Elima one against us is a prime example. A disgusting attack on Azza's leg, gets a penalty and on report at the time. Elima banned for 4 games, none of which we benefit from.

TBH Football has this right to a certain extent. Red card is given, perhaps in the heat of the moment, that can be, and often is, rescinded after examination by the ref. The team that the foul is against gains some benefit (as there is likely to have been a foul at some point), not the teams due up next. On report is still a massive cop out that benefits nobody

Only thing i see is that Paea hits below the knee and flowers above the knee. That tackle is not allowed in the NRL now, although never saw anything about Super League.

Having read the findings I would put it up alongside Shakespeare as a wonderful work of fiction. They really are clueless and the sooner some of these jumped up ex-players are shown the door, the better for all of us.
