Aye - bit of a shot to nothing, isn't it? If he can recapture his early career form, it's a win. If not you've got Lineham, Biggs, Crookes, Crooks, Yeaman and Arundel. McGoldrick might be a slightly safer bet, but the potential medium-term returns would be capped pretty low.
The halfback you're bringing in will be a more telling indication of intent.

| I am a bit concerned that we are becoming a home for waifs and strays; players looking to resurrect their careers who can't get a berth elsewhere.
This lad is not an unknown quantity; like Feka we know he can perform at the top level because he's done it before. The question is whether he can do it again.
I don't know the length of his deal but doubt he'll be costing much.
Let's give him a chance and see how he goes.

We're fooked then! haha
Heard the names Chisholm, Rankin and Soward today alone - surprised they haven't announced the signing if all they are waiting for is the VISA as thats all we are waiting on for Talanoa

| Soward would be great, showed his class in a really poor team, would be great for us.
Signed a big deal with an NRL club though hasn't he?

We're trying to find Miller a new club before we can sign the 7, he's a first grader.

| We're waiting until we see Talanoa before we form an opinion. Sheldon has already seen him play and already has that opinion formed, don't think that's hard to understand really. I'm sure Sheldon would change that opinion if he proved to be a success?

Maybe we're more concerned that revealing the halfback's name could tip others off than we are with Talanoa?

I guess they wanted to put a brake on the negativity ASAP, and for those that like to accentuate the positive, once it is announced any qualms will put to the back of minds in favour of giving him a chance.
I reckon you'll want to make a bit more of a splash with the half - final push ahead of the pass renewal deadline perhaps.

I'm sceptical about us signing a big name or even first grade half back but if its going to have any impact on pass sales it needs to happen soon.

| Is it really any worse then Wire signing Kevin Penny? To be fair he's been playing at a higher level of rugby then Talanoa recently but still a lot of comparisons between the two. Players with raw ability or talent always get numerous chances, you can be the smartest, hardest trainer, fittest most focused player in the world but get binned never to return because you don't have that x-factor. Personally I'd sooner take a gamble on kids like this and quite excited, although looking at it without black and white specs it looks like things are stacked against him can't deny that, but he must have something there that Hull are wiling to take a risk with.

| Not the best of signings but will get full support now he is a Hull player. Just hope he is more of a Moa than a Maiva in how he performs for us.

I want the bloke to be a success but imo these are the signings sl shouldn't be making. Theres a few splattered around sl that are equally as poor and it just blocks the path of up and coming players.

| I pretty much guarantee that if we signed Aiton, people on this forum would be calling him and he club saying "you wouldn't see top clubs signing players like Aiton". Except he's signed for Leeds.
Welcome Fetuli, hope he goes well. It's getting boring how negative it is on here.

I don't think anyone could argue against that point, there are far too many.
It's almost a habit we have in SL, we must be seen to be acquiring at least some overseas talent. There are undoubtedly similarities between this situation and the Shaul/McDonnell debate, just that, in this instance the player isn't blocking anybody at the club directly, just the possibility of finding an unpolished English diamond. Strange how people's views are polar opposite about the two scenarios though.

Leeds will release McShane to fit Aiton in, it's a disgrace, and completely unlike Leeds.

Welcome Fetuli. If he's any good, hope he plays centre., inside Biggs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the left wing, at least till Biggs arrives, he hasn't played much centre at all and he was never one of those players who put his winger away.

| Russ Walker was certainly a bin man Mrs B, not sure about Andy Dannatt.
If our new signing puts as much into his game as Russ Walker did, we'll have a good 'un.
Lets give the lad a break before writing him off as a has-bin lad just yet

I do know that at some point Andy Dannatt worked at Reckitts "blue" down Morley St and Russ Walker worked at British Aerospace Brough.
