greg inglis was a disaster for wire,only played 3 games.

What a joke that was. Got 12 months notice and still wasn’t “fit” enough to play until 4 months into the season. Looked about 45, played 2 games, did his hamstring in game 3 then goodnight god bless. Peak post 2015 Wire recruitment that was.

After a good spell with the Bulldogs he signed a 3 year deal with Wests said to be around $2 Million and hardly played due to injury and poor form. On his time at Wests he defined his tenure there as being a dud signing for the club.

After his 2021 season I asked on here if he was also a dud signing for Hull. As Hodgson was at the Tigers with Reynolds he should shoulder some responsibility for his recruitment.

Yeah I had a feeling we might be clearing a quota spot. As you say we could easily have just dropped him and played a youngster. If we've paid his contract off in full we're financially not really much different (potentially just payment terms rather than actually figure) so the biggest benefit out of it all, to me at least, seems to be opening up a quota place.

Think Hodgson wanted him and Gale to have a good run together to see how they went. If he wasn't a marquee player and wasn't Hodgson's signing he may well have gone before. Maybe Pearson and Clark had to step in?

You've really got to question his judgement in signing him in the first place. Even more worrying that he was on the Wests coaching staff.

You could well be right but even if we do bring a stand off in I'd like to see a youngster getting some game time at half back as we shouldn't be keeping Gale on unless he has a dramatic upturn in form.

For the first time in years we are producing a significant number of academy players who look capable of making the step up. Some need to be given a chance sooner rather than later because if not they'll stagnate or be picked up elsewhere.

Long term even if we do spend the full cap we will not challenge the likes Saints or Wigan unless we produce a stream of homegrown quality.

A moot point now but was it ever confirmed that he was Hodgson's signing, or had the club been chasing him prior to the appointment? It was very quick, signing announced just over a week after BH was appointed.

Fair point COYH. I always thought it was a Hodgson signing but even if it was before he was officially appointed I would have thought the club would have sought his advice given his relationship with Pearson.
