Think about you own relationships with your wives/husbands. If you were suffering in the same way as Brett Seymour is supposed to be, would you expect your partner to sell the story to the sunday papers.....?

Huge sympathy for the depth of Brett's depression, which is shocking. It's also the latest of several stories of players struggling with mental health issues, with the people around them being unaware of their extent, so to keep up awareness of the issue is important. The reporting style and timing don't seem to me to be hugely helpful though. Recovery can be a long and fragile process and he's only just started treatment. Whether it will help him to be on the front page of the Sunday Mirror at this stage seems questionable.

I asked the question if it was a possible scenario.
At no point in my post did I state that I do not have any sympathy for anyone who is suffering from depression.

Utmost sympathy for Brett Seymour, shows the depth of his problem if he thought it was possible to drive off the bridge. Not too sure about his wife sharing the details through a Sunday paper and the social media, though.

Can't really judge either way because I and probably most of us don't know the guy or his wife. Depressed or mentally ill people do terrible things which can result in harming themselves and others. Drugs and alcohol play a part often but whether it's a good enough reason for sympathy when they may potentially kill someone whilst driving in that state is debatable and will depend on your point of view and involvement. I don't understand why anyone would want to involve the media on something like this though surely it's a time for friends and family and sorting it out quietly? At best it provokes this sort of debate which I wouldn't think is helpful.

Brett's wife probably has no experience of this illness before, she's spoke to the press to try and raise awareness. If that helps the couple in the long run only time will tell. But even if it doesn't help, it highlights the problem and if only one person seeks help due to it, it has served it's purpose.
Anybody who takes sleeping pills with Wine and goes out with the intention of killing themselves are suffering from a mental illness in some form.
