Was just talking about this the other day, but our injury "curse" (if indeed it is one) only really started once we moved to the KC

Just thinking of players who had a lot of time out through injury, the unluckiest must have been Dwayne West who came on as a sub, got injured and never played again.

But thinking of others...

Steve Prescott, surely the cruellest luck, being injured playing on the wing for Lancashire in a meaningless match

and in no particular order....(comments are just what I remember and may be wrong !)

Jason Smith - bad chest injury from a dirty cheap-shot merchant - our most missed player ?
Matt Crowther - leg and ankle broken in a simple tackle at Cas
Shaun Berrigan, who appears to be still fit enough to play centre in the NRL !
Adam Dykes - got us to wembley at least
Sean Long - our most high profile crock ?
Richie Barnett (snr) - top quality centre who got debilitating illness
Michael Eagar - decent centre who kept breaking his arm
Shayne McMenemy - unsung hero of the 2005/6 era
Motu Tony - we kept him instead of Shaun Briscoe and then he got injured
Craig Fitzgibbon - had to retire with broken foot
Tony Martin - a stop-gap centre who didn't last the season
Mike Burnett - looked the real deal at one time but had back injury
Mark Calderwood - never got injured playing for Leeds did he ?
Matt Sing - looked to be playing with an injury a lot
Nathan Blacklock - ditto
Sid Domic - packed in during 2007 ?
Scott Logan - badly broken leg in 2004
Matthew Head - admittedly he was known to be "fragile" when we signed him
Gareth Ellis - bizarre foot injury when merely trapping a loose ball in the warm up


That's a fair turn of bad luck I reckon.

I remember 2003 where we had a player break a leg every game for 3 weeks. I think Scott Logan was the only one to manage to carry on his career, but it took over a year and he had left us by then. Great prop!

Richard fletcher - one of the best prospects we produced in that same era. Jason smith rated him really high, but couldn't stop getting injured and his career was lost. Terrible luck. To bring us back to now, every year whiting gets a season ending injury too.

Am I missing something as I seem to remember Feildon sticking his knee in Smith's chest and putting him out for weeks which, in my book, means he's injured!

I don't believe in superstitions/curses and you can easily point the finger of blame at the club for many of the players listed in this thread.

Dykes famously wasn't given a medical, despite being old and already having a dubious fitness record.

We knew that Head coulden't train much during the week due to his fitness problems when we signed him (though saying that he's probably the most consistent No7 we've had since Brough!)

Sing, Fitzgibbon, Martin, Long, Blacklock & Domic were all the wrong side of 30 and had played hundreds of games for club and country when we signed them, they all had a lot of 'miles on the clock'

And how many of the list did we risk further injuries by playing the player under painkilling injections?

yes we've had a few examples of bad luck (Ellis trapping a ball and damaging his foot being one example) but in others you have to again look at the quality of our recruitment over the years.

Fielden got a two match ban and warned about lifting his knee into a tackling player's chest.

Jason Smith missed around four months with a shattered sternum, IIRC. The Doctor who examined the injury at the time said it was the worse of it's type he'd ever seen.

That's why I used the phrase "cheap shot merchant". Thuggish play from a player who would never take one anyone his own size.
