all we need now is for a club to bring the game down by signing a player they can't afford, only to find out he's also ineligible to play in their squad because of quo.... oh, hang on.

or give a player yet another chance because it suits a club after admitting to an offence that most of us would be sacked for....oh hang on again!!

sad day for rugby league. But its a pity that a national paper gives 3 whole pages publicising the bad side of rugby league but struggles usually giving a paragraph !!

How has shaun leaf spent 9 years and Doncaster and the sun quote him as been 22 years old ?

so i suspect that the sun will be doing a 3 page spread about the weekend fixtures ect then, typical some bad news and there the first to try and put this sport down yet we dont hear of them another other time

that's wrong, they usually have some coverage of SL games on a Monday/Tuesday.

yeh usually a small paragraph 10 pages in from the back and thats if they can be botherd to put it in the paper normally just put it on the website

which is proportional to the support the game has.

RL is of little interest to 99% of the population of the UK, we just have to accept that.

Is the reason the Sun and other dont cover it because of the above or is not followed by 99% of the population because the Sun and others dont cover it. I have no interest in school rugby (and I suspect neither do 99.99% of the population) but it dosent stop the Dail Mail giving it more coverage than a normal Super League weekend.

We all know how many players and Coaches are betting on games, it is too hard to resist with the inside info.

lets put it in perspective, a semi pro rugby player bets against own team, he didnt even play in the game yet the headline screams rugby league betting scandal! it is true we are a minority sport with very little in the way of column inches in the national press, the editor of the sun has no interest in rugby league but has all of a sudden found three pages for us, it is a clear effort to smear rugby league, the article even states that r.l. is played by a group of players within the m62 corridor, just to point out how insignificent we really are, of course nothing like that ever happens in union (fake blood), or cricket (match fixing) or football (dodgy world cup panel, match fixing) i still support the best game in the world safe in the knowledge that there is not too much more sleazy than a copy of the sun.

Not sure but Leafy is one of the good guys, it is dreadful that he has been the one to take the rap.

It is pretty much rife at most clubs. The betting gang mention how good the handicap is and even the reserve grade players start chipping into a sneaky wager that someone at the club puts on for em.

I remember walking into a bookies on Holderness Road with Michael Smith minutes after Morgs announced the team to play Haven away (full of academy players). Still in Rovers trackies as we walked in the bookie just shook his head and laughed saying "you've got no chance, 3 of your lot have already been in here and tried, I aint stupid"

Hypothetical scenario...

Said player is steaming towards the line with just the FB to beat. If he passes to a supporting player it's a sure fire try under the sticks; if he keeps the ball he [imight[/i score wide out or he could be tackled into touch. He has a large bet on himself to score first.

Now do you see the problem with it?
