Not intending to go over old ground on his departure from FC, but if you take this season in isolation and look what he's delivered with a lower quality squad and similar levels of injury to us, he deserves a lot of credit. Good gameplan again tonight, Obst taking control, kicking and turning Rovers round time and again. A good mix of so-called "negative" tactics to grind things out and yet overall an entertaining brand of rugby. Certainly gets the maximum out of what he's got available to him.

This thread has nothing to do with Rovers, it's about an ex Hull FC coach and comparing what he has achieved (5th or 6th) with a poorer squad and comparable injuries to the current FC incumbent. Get over yourself.

A good honest No7 who we would have turned our noses up to as he is "not good enough for us". The league is littered with them. Robinson, Deacon, Dobson players who week in week out put in the hard graft and have that cheeky chappy scrum half personality about them and a little bit of guile which we have lacked for so many years now. Whatever their short comings they could all have done a job for us.

Don't get involved with them ..everybody know how bitter that lot get when they lose

Whatever the reasons for ridding our club of his services they would have to be good to override the fact that his teams in general play to a plan and try to carry out that plan to the best of their collective ability. That is more than we have had recently. That said I thought their opposition tonight was ordinary.

Yet again it shows that a half back with a modicum of ability can improve the odds of his team succeeding in a game even with an average skill level.

Correct. Obst had a terrific game I thought, but in kicking terms just continually drilled the ball into touch for a scrum on Rovers 20. Not sophisticated but wearing to defend against.

Yes and for a while I thought his coach might have told him to do just that.

bradford did the same against us last night altho the kicks didnt go into touch, it made us try to drive the ball out of our own half, time and time again. Whish at times we stuggled.

No he just tapped it out with his fingers.

It was a really poor game from both sides. I doubt either had a completion rate much above 50%. wakey looked to be more cohesive which is why they won. Have to say that this has been the worst SL season for me overall in terms of skill levels and consistency.

It's a good tactic if you have a dominant pack. Maybe that's why we don't do it

Last night Wakey were without Petersen,Blanch,Martin,Bibey,Rooney,Drew,Snitch,Sculthorpe,Pitts so thats 9 players of which 3 of them have been released yet they are still capable of producing performances and have finished in the top 6 which is a tremendous effort for a club of there resources, yet we have similar problems yet put the old injuries and not Agars team spin on it

just shows what you can achieve with a coach who gets the best out of the team

He's already gone much further than Morgan. He's coached in SL for longer and won two Challenge Cups. Morgan has a way to go before he even catches up, mate.

It is arguable that Wakefield have a weaker squad than yours.

It does make you wonder doesn't it, if JK was given time with the club how we could have improved. It seemed he lost the dressing room, certain players let it be known they wanted him out and they stopped performing for him..............sound familiar. If the board had the faith back then to back the coach and not to let the players rule the roost we might not have had 2 years of utter sheete we've had to put up with.

John Kear is no world class coach but he gets the best out of his teams given time.
