| Question. Is this team better then the 2006 team that got to the Grand Final?
The team that played at Old Trafford was:
Briscoe, Tony, Domic, Yeaman, Raynor, Cooke, R. Horne, Dowes, Swain, Carvell, McMenemy, Radford, Washbrook. Replacements: Whiting, G. Horne, Wheeldon, King
I think only Raynor, Cooke, Swain & Carvell were better then what we have now, I know Brough had fallen out of favour by then (Richard Horne at Scrum Half anyone?)
As a side note how good was the 2006 Saints team?
Wellens, Gardner, Lyon, Talau, Meli, Pryce, Long, P. Anderson, Cunningham, Cayless, Gilmour, Wilkin, Hooper. Replacements: Roby, Graham, Bennett, Fa'asavalu.
That bench is unreal!

| better for 2nd, 3rd, 4th to keep losing, that puts pressure on them and loss of confidence, we've seen time and time again how losing a few games can have further ramifications. IF and that of course is a big if, we are well ahead in the race for the LL trophy come the 8s we could choose to rest a couple of players (more pro-actively than we have currently) alternating for a few games so all the big hitters are getting some game time off or at the very very least anyone with a hint of a knock gets rested properly.
If those big hitters are coming in to the back end of the season a bit fresher due to our better form earlier on and other teams losing ground and forced to play as many big names as possible to try make the 4 then that surely gives us an advantage come the play-offs.
All hypothetical but as I said i would prefer to see 2-4 losing ground on us than worrying about distancing 5th

| Quote ="Wellsy13"I don't see why it matters what 2nd-4th do for us to pull away from 5th? If we pull away from all of them, surely that's better?
If 2nd-5th keep losing, we'll pull just as much in front of 5th as we would if 2nd-4th kept winning.'" Obviously, if we keep winning it doesn't matter what everyone else does,
but if the top 4 keep winning then 5th and 6th will lose at least 2 or 3 more games, and then we are nearly in the semis before the last 7 games are played.
If 5th place gets closer, and we have a bad spell, the last 7 games could be very difficult.
Anyway, it's much easier to just wait and see.
