| Doesn't happen often enough, we all know he has it in him but there is a reason he's been at Trinity for so long. Never lacks effort though

| If he played like that every week rather than just 3 or 4 times a season, he would have far fewer critics

| On his day, he can be as good as anyone.
Sadly, for me, it doesn't happen often enough, and there, in, lies the problem. I also think the same on Lino.
I've no idea what he's on, money wise, and don't want to know, but I would say he is one of our bigger earners, and expect these good performances a little more often.
Sadly last week was a perfect example, 3 of our so called better players, all went missing, and have done too many times, and I do think that has a lot to do with as to why we're where we are at.
We've lost at least 6 games this year where we have been within a converted try, and most If the time in these games, poor game management and last tackle plays have let us down
If he goes, and Lino too, they go with best wishes, but would like to replace them if we could, with that extra bit of quality.

| Haha love it, one decent game when it suits him & people are wetting themselves like after the Cas game which is a few weeks ago now. I’d rather someone perform at a level of say 90% every match rather than the rocks & diamonds you get with this kid.
He can do it but for some reason he chooses not to.

| It has always baffled me why people criticise Miller. True in his first few seasons he was very in and out but he was young.
In recent years he’s been our best most reliable player. Sure he makes errors but people who put themselves in the firing line rather than hiding always will.
What really staggers me is that he gets more stick than Lino. Anyone who rates Lino higher than Miller need their bumps feeling. Most weeks Lino is more a hindrance to Miller than a help and today was no different and today was a Lino good day.
My big hope is that Lino will eventually do what Miller has done and mature into a top player. It’s no wonder Cas want him, he’d vastly improve them.

I think most people agree with what you say Vasty and on his day he IS as good as anyone. My criticism of him is that he simply does not use those talents that he possesses more often and that's the difference between him being a good solid standoff and a great one.
He's our Captain and should lead by example week in and week out showing those silky skills he possesses much more often than he does - that's my view anyway.

That’s how a lot of people see it mate. It doesn’t help that when he does decide to make an appearance you get people on here raving about him. Yes he can play but it appears to be only when it suits him.
A Cas supporting mate of mine (I know) told me a couple of months ago that he was off there, I said i wasn’t that upset he was leaving, our issue is finding an adequate replacement on our budget.

| It’s a difficult one with Miller as there are that many factors around him that can make him look poor, when he might be doing everything right but the forwards or Lino at the side of him are poor. His defence has always been excellent. Put it this way I think with our budget we’ll struggle to find a better replacement (happily proved wrong)

There was a time, Vasty, when I’m sure you were one of his bigger critics.
Like others have said, he’s capable of these performances, but sadly, they don’t happen very often, which is so frustrating. In his defence, I don’t think he’s the only player in our squad like that though, and I don’t think captaincy has helped his case either, but hats off, in these last couple of wins he’s played a captains knock.
I was a big fan in the first couple of seasons, but these performances were becoming less often.
I do hope though, that if he goes, we do replace him with some real quality. Hopefully Fev will like Lineham so much that they want to take his inflated contract on and free up cap and budget space, so we can bring on quality at 6 and 7.

Correct I stated that in my post. First few years he was dodgy, had what I called a yip.
It’s a strange world we live in. It seems you can’t judge someone as that are at that moment without it somehow being used in evidence against you years later. So what it’s irrelevant what I or anyone else thought years ago to what we think now.
I think Lino is a really poor half back. In two seasons I may think he’s great because he may well be. However that doesn’t apply respectively despite what some on here peddle. He could go on to be man of steel but that won’t make him any less poor at this moment in time.
It’s not about bl**dy point scoring it’s about the truth. Miller imo is currently our only game breaker and has been since Finn retired. That’s just how it is.
Slightly OT, ditto Poching, the facts are that we are still second from bottom and have played some dreadful and gutless RL this season. We are playing well now but that doesn’t allow us to rewrite history to suit our argument or agendas.
I will say hand on heart the capitulation to Toulouse at Newcastle was the lowest I’ve ever seen from a Trinity side. Worse than anything I’ve witnessed in forty years and there is a lot to chose from. I’m amazed how quickly some are forgetting that, I can only assume some are besotted with WP due to accent or player reputation, no other coach has ever seemed to get off so lightly.
I fully get the massive problems we have and nobody expects wins but we do expect performances and let’s be honest it want until the Saints game that they materialised. Bit late imo.
So let’s also hope Poching does a Miller and matures into a great coach. To be fair it’s early days but the facts are that by this point both Chester and Kear were doing much better after saving a relegation threatened team or are we going to rewrite that one as well.

Watch it you’re being sane again.
The reason Miller and to be fair Lino look poor in more games than they look good is 99% down to a lousy pack performance. Half back won games when the team plays, rarely the other way around.

| What I don't get is that you can blame Poaching for the poor performances but can't praise him for the good ones.
It's all about potential to me. We have clearly won games and competed in games where tactics were what made the difference.
Equally he's only just completed his first season of being a head coach. He isn't perfect but I see potential that he'll get better and am prepared to stick with him on that basis.
I remember you arguing that Whitbread wasn't worth a quota spot when he started. Even the best take time but I remember posting week after week showing even in the worst games that his stats were good. And it's coming out now.
Some I don't think will improve any more. Ashurst is useful and playing the best he has in ages but he isn't going to develop further. He is what he is. I'm wondering whether Max is the same after seeing Shaul.
I often get called out when people are miserable after a defeat but sometimes I like to try see potential that it will improve when some just see the score.
I'd also say Willie has been pretty good with his signings too. I look forward to seeing what he does with the money TJ and Tupou release (and maybe others)
Miller, I'm on the fence. He needs the forwards to give him a platform if we want to see him play like he did today. But he's never going to be a Lewis or a Thurston. If he stays I'll be pleased. If he goes I'll look forward to see who we sign.

| poching has made a couple of good signings but also some strange ones. Minns was a total mistake and I am far from sure about Butler.
As far as Miller is concerned I hope the rumours about Gale are rubbish. I wish we could find another Brodie Croft type player. Wouldnt mind Norman either if he moves on from tool house

Norman is a sending off waiting to happen because he is easily riled. We have Butler until the end of next season and have resigned Kaye but other than that nothing but I may be wrong.

You keep saying I said he wasn’t worth a quota spot when what I was saying was that he wasn’t at the time the special player we needed, and I was right. We are still second from bottom and still in danger I’ll say this until I’m blue.
Being where we are has nothing to do with Whitbread and he is definitely a bright star in a still black cloud. And yes I’d snap him up tomorrow. However the lad is no fool I suspect and he won’t want to be sweating it out next season in a team that may well be just as poor.
Whitbread is the kind of player that will help a poor team do better but will make a better team look top notch.
So my point stands, if we can keep him YES but he’s not the answer. If there isn’t a major restructuring next year he will just be a brave footnote.
If Arona retires, and we don’t retain Jorge then we really need to make those count.
I’m still unconvinced about Poching but if he got an edge over say Chester it has to be his knowledge and connection to Kiwi and especially Somoan players. Hopefully he has an ace up his sleeve.

So, do we break the bank to keep him?

OK but look what you're left with. MC has already stated next year will be even tighter whilst the rest of our pack really are ageing fast.
I'm not disagreeing with you but he's going to cost and it will hit other recruitment.
