| I am a WP fan & I am still sure he is Good for us & @ the right cost for us @ the club. I am also aware he only has till the end of the season on his contract.
However, if we are ever to better the club, players & therefore the culture of this madness we have I would love to keep WP, but as an assistant to Tony Smith who would probably only stay 1 or 2 seasons & then WP, to continue the good work, TS, leaves club's in a better position playing wise & WP, is after all mentored by Tony Smith.
This will not happen but OMG, I wish !

that's what I like to see dismiss an opportunity to improve the club with one of the best super league coaches that's been here and for what? don't tell me you like Willy and wouldn't want to upset him.
for gawd sake its a team event and if that meant improving the club by him joining the team then it should happen, probably the best suggestion in yonks and like TT said they have worked together and I'm sure he wouldn't feel like his nose has been shoved out

| Willie is far down the pecking order of people that need to step aside at the club IMO ,would a top NRL coach make any perceivable improvement/difference v cost of salary ,I think not . First off players need to have a long hard look at themselves and ask themselves if they are here to make the numbers up , take a wage or play for the honour of the badge ,I’d suggest we have some that if the truth be known are here for no other reason than the aforementioned. How we can possibly judge willies short tenure coaching someone else’s team is quite frankly a knee jerk reaction ,we put up with Chester for the last two seasons and his abysmal record ,let give Willie some slack . I have every faith in poaching ,he’s been around and learned from the best in super league for his apprenticeship ,he was a winner in his playing days , I’m sure he’ll be hurting as much if not more than us ,and if money was available I’m positive there would be incomings . But we cut our cloth accordingly and move on .

What you are, going shopping?
Tony Smith has said that he isn't going to Leeds (nearest will be Pontefract squash club ), but his nephew Rohan is.

In case you'd forgotten Poching was mentored by Smith so perhaps he's learned all he can from him, Smith is leaving at the end of the season because his contract is up and being the gent he is, is fulfilling his obligations, wishful thinking on your part or not it would be good in an ideal world, unfortunately we don't do ideal really, one other thing I don't suppose you'd personally like to run this past Willie would you

| What Smith does wherever he goes is create a great culture that seems to remain after he leaves, I think he would be a brilliant DOR for a few years for us, the relationship he already has with WP would be a bonus, as much as MC and JM run the club well, he`s not a rugby man and an extra head with the coach to look at all things rugby i.e. recruitment with the experience and knowledge of TS imho is what we have been crying out for. Kear for me played a similar role for us and it told on field both when he was present with us and for a couple years after, the problem with that is his tenure was cut short before the job was done.
I know we had issue with Brian Smith, similar to the flaws Tony references at Hull KR re not having control of the organisation in the departments he needed to to have the influence he needed, if TS is available and willing I would throw the kitchen sink at him to take a role here, everywhere he has been he has turned the club around and that speaks volume.

I wouldn't turn down some consultancy.
But to appoint a leader and then undermine him by appointing someone above him is more damaging than the benefits of brining Smith in as top dog.

Why would it be damaging?
Kear was appointed into the same role with Chester and had an immediate impact on the teams performances especially in defence
Whether it’s perceived as positive or not all depends on how it’s publicised and pitched to the fans
The only potential negative is Carters relationship with Brian Smith and whether that would effect his relationship with Tony

You think he did but you don’t know.
It could just have been a fluke.
However there is a massive difference here. Kear knows Trinity backwards and genuinely loves the club. I do think that matters.

The OP suggested he come in as head coach and Willie be assistant. That is a demotion and damaging
The role Kear had wasn't a lead role. Chester still made the decisions supported by Kear.
If Smith did that I'd be more comfortable. But it's how Willie feels that counts. I'd leave things as they are personally with some consultancy advice from Smith if we feel he can help.

What do you mean it`s how Willie feels that counts? For me it`s results and success that counts, continuous improvement springs to mind, we just don`t pounce when we need to as a club and that`s the difference with successful clubs, what we have is okay, it could be a lot better and bringing someone like TS in would make it better IMO, This is professional sport, it`s ruthless and unforgiving, I`m sure WP would see what someone like TS would bring to a club like ours and be on board with that btw. .

Would you be ok if your boss just came up to you and said we are putting a level in above you, demoting you and taking away your responsibilities?
If you want to replace WIllie then fair enough. I want to keep him.
As I said, if there was a role that would fit with Willie keeping his responsibilities then great. But they've given him a job to do and they should see it through imho.

See that`s quite a negative angle isn`t it? If you read my previous post my suggestion was TS in a DOR role, no mention of demoting anybody at all.
Would you be ok if your boss came up to you in a high pressure job (That by the way is your first ever appointment in a position of this level) and said we are going to bring someone in to help ease the pressure, someone to help with decision making with the board, another head to problem solving, someone vastly experienced with a great track record of success that is going to make your job a little easier?

As I said, I would be ok with a consultancy or advisory role. But that wasn't what the OP said and was why I was commenting on it.
But still, Willie is new and we gave him a job. I don't see why there is doubt that he can do it yet.

The difference between us and perceived successful clubs is the sponsorship they attract, plus the financial aid from the wealthy directors, plus the extra fans that successful clubs attract, not sure what you mean by we don't pounce when we need to, other than those successful clubs that do pounce and can afford to where as we don't usually have the finances unless that man who receives more criticism on here than even vastman pulls a tree up, personally unless Smith comes in an advisory capacity only and nothing more I'm not as confident as you and I don't realistically see Poching being on board.

There are some on here complain about the lack of investment on players we can't afford, yet would like the club to invest in a coach we don't have the money for, we can't have both unfortunately.
