Whatever the coaching ethos is at the club it seems to be applied globally. All three teams seem to play with the same style with the same never say die attitude and incredible fitness levels. Great stuff.

| Agree with the above. The set up at the club seems to be building a winning culture and a positive tough attitude.
Regards Murphy - the lad keeps scoring doesn’t he? I know it’s TJ final year at trinity (unless he signs an extension) but if for any reason TJ moves on we are incredibly luck to have the ‘next TJ’ in Murphy. What an embarrassment of riches we have with the likes of Murphy, Bowes, Eseh and the rest.
Good game for Gaskell it seems too with 5 assists and a few nice kicks. Might have put himself in the frame for a spot in the busy fixture list coming up.

I think TJ is a freak and had it not been for injuries he would be a household name. He’s the best winger I’ve seen at BV or in SL. I think we underestimate just how special he is. Don’t think I’ll see another in my lifetime.
So I don’t want to compare. But should Tom leave I agree we have a great replacement even if imho he’s not the new TJ.
Let’s call him the new Murphy

As for Gaskil that’s great news..He can’t get in right now for the great reason that there is no place for him. However with the ability to cover umpteen positions it’s not a case of if but when. Sounds like he’s bought into it, could easily have sulked playing reserve against his first club.

Fair points there and I agree about TJ who looks in too shape and form this year. I guess we will see soon enough whether TJ will remain at trinity. If he does then Murphy might have to make a transition to right wing from his natural left.
I certainly don’t underestimate TJ. He is capable on anything and some try’s he’s scored no other player in SL is capable of including Makinson. NRL may come sniffing for him.

Sounds like he had a stormer and it keeps the competition up for the halfback spots. Definitely shows a good attitude from Gaskell I agree.
Thankfully we have the reserves this year to give some players pushing for spots some valuable game time.

When I first saw Tom I thought there was something very special about him. When he scored his Hudds wonder try it was confirmed and has been ever since.
When I first saw Murphy I thought that kid has the ability to go all the way.
However I think TJ is unique, I think Murphy is top notch prospect but as a far more conventional winger. Minor difference but it’s there.
We shall see but I personally don’t want to over burden him with expectations at this point. I didn’t think for a moment you did either.

Absolutely not. The lad may be given his shot soon enough but shouldn’t be expected to light up the stage and be allowed to learn his trade as a SL winger by making a few mistakes and learning from them. There’s definitely some ability there though. We have been incredibly lucky to have TJ on the left wing for past 6/7 years.

To be honest he’s been a name on NRL scouting trips for a few seasons now… due to his injuries and loyalty he’s still at Trinity.
To be honest I think if he were to make the move out here it should have been four or five years ago… his injury record will make the NRL clubs nervous (particularly the concussion issue)
He has the ability to have been an absolute superstar… but has been so so unlucky!!

| If Tom goes I hope it's to the NRL but it's a big step to make and I'm sure he still has a lot of loyalty to Trinity - the club have looked after him throughout his various injuries.
He has to think of his family though and who could blame him if he was offered enough elsewhere to make it tempting to go.

| The future is looking bright for years to come with our home grown talent coming on in leaps and bounds ,the hard bit will be keeping them all Happy when the time comes for them to make their next career moves/transition.on the TJ front id like to think he knows where his bread is buttered and keeps faith in WT as we have in him over the years , He’s an inspiration to the kids coming through at the club having been through hell with his long term injuries and has come out the other side a stronger person for his ordeals ,which I’m sure would have had lesser people throwing the towel in . I’m not sure at all about the rigours of the NRL for Thom at this later stage in his career ,it’s brutal to say the least and one I don’t think the Aussies will take a punt on . I’m hopeful he sees his career out with us and but only he and the club knows where his future lies .

He’s also got a testimonial in a few years incredibly. In his case he could be looking at a bit of a golden egg there.
I believe they are still tax free so with a good organising team behind him he could clear anything up to 50k, especially if he and the team are playing well. That’s a sizeable amount in RL terms. It’s also on top of your regular earnings and in truth you don’t have to put your body on the line to get it, you’ve already done that.
Same applies to a few others. Even Dave might manage it if he can manage a few more years.

| I know that Saints may say they had some players unavailable, due to first team duty but, this was an excellent result, absolutely excellent.
With some of our youngsters having had a taste of SL, it definitely helps.
Well played boys !

Yes the home games are but not sure about away games.
Would love it if there was some commentary though. Nothing special just try scorers, latest scores, reffing decisions.
Any chance club? anyone here fancy it? Not me my monotone voice would put you to sleep..

| Now watched the whole game on Trinity TV… may I suggest a series of adverts each week showing what’s coming up and when… and I agree with Vastman that some commentary would be great.
Shame for Ollie Pratt getting an ankle injury in almost his first involvement…
But as is my new wont I have a series of positive comments to make …
1) the number of players coming through that seemingly have the ability to become first graders is very encouraging… looks like they are getting good coaching
2) Bowes is really growing as a player.. his variety and speed are excellent at times the defence had no idea what he would do
3) I really like Gaskell it’s like he’s been imported from the 1980s a real old style ball player
4) Issac Shaw, fortune permitting, will be a top player… workload attitude, running lines…and his post impact meters are a sight to behold!
5) Very impressed with Butterworth, another youngster with the makings of a top class half… speed, hands, reads the game well and handles full back well too
6) he’s not troubled the first team yet but Windrow look a very classy player…
7) like the work of numbers 15 and 18 when they came on…
finally… a Johnstone/ Murphy comparison… when they get the ball in hand, the game speeds up!
Really enjoyed the game… when Trinity settled into the match there was only one winner… despite the start!!

Agree with all that.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Butterworth isn’t signed on a first team contract soon. Unless he already has and ive missed it.
Thought he was going to be a HB but he seems to have had a growth spurt and look more like a FB now but one who can cover HB.
