I thought the RFL had already received £16 million in loans from the government earlier this year, and some clubs have already received payment from the funding. If the government are making further financial aid, then I hope it’s in the form of a grant, there’s just not enough money in our sport to repay further loans.

I agree. Gifts welcome, loans I think may hurt us, depending on terms I guess.

| Sounds like it's an extension to the previous loan scheme. Taken from the governement site....
[iThe funding, which will be largely composed of loans, is the most generous of any Government for its domestic sport sector in the world, and will focus on sports severely impacted over the winter.
Rugby Football League: £12 million. This will be delivered as a top-up to the existing Government loan scheme announced in May 2020, to reflect updated circumstances.[/i

This paragraph makes me think that, for some sports it could be a grant, it also states, the £12 million is a “top up to the existing £16 million Loan announced in May. So I’m thinking that’s another £12 million to pay back. I wonder if the RFL have asked for extra funding, or the government saying “no spectators before next summer.”

There is an element of wealth in this. RL is a wealthier sport than women’s football so it gets less. I’ve no issue tbh.
What I’m not so happy about is the amount RU is getting. Also what is the difference between RU and the RU premiership? Does that mean BARLA is getting millions?

I found it bizarre because I am sure most of the top women's teams are owned by the same entity as the men's, I know that is the case for the women's SL football league, they are backed by billionaire owners and I cannot imagine that it costs them much in the grand scheme of them financing there clubs, how much is women's football missing out on in terms of income I wonder.

| On a separate point does anybody know if BT or Sky have similarly punished the football clubs for not fulfilling there contract as Sky have done with Super league? I haven't heard it with any other sport but probably missed something?

I hadn’t seen that item before, perhaps the government just hedging their bets.

When I went to school the £3m that women's football is getting was a lot less than the £12m rugby league is getting.

It will depend on the terms and penalties of each contract with each provider I am pretty certain SKY will not have an 'off the shelf' contract for different sports. I don't think football has failed in its obligations to sky from what I have seen in the media although I do stand to be corrected.

| Just a thought to all this loan business,
If the loan is to the RFL, & therefore not to the super league, then, the RFL, has to be responsible for making repayments + any set
Interest rates !
If, any club or SL club draws on the initial loan via the RFL holder of the main loan then rightly they agree terms & repayments !
However, those clubs who do not draw on the sum that the RFL, hold, do/should, not make any repayments ?
But, that may mean the clubs who do draw down, would have to eventually cover all the debt that the RFL, have in order not to go
Bust, but would that mean, a surcharge on what all clubs pay annually to the RFL anyway ?
So, those clubs who don't draw down, would in effect help to pay back the loan when not borrowing. ???
This loan could be a double edged sword !!!!

Possible that the money is just available from the Government coffers as needed rather than transferred in total to the RFL maybe?
