| It's fifty years this year since the infamous Watersplash final.
To those who suffered that injustice I think it's about time that was put right.
That one moment of bad luck effectively ended Trinity as a genuine competitor. Wouldn't it be great if this team finally reversed that situation.
Over to you lads, no pressure....

| Robbed (and I don't mean by the missed goal!). It still hurts. I still can't watch that match again - I'm still gutted and my dislike for the loiners grew that day!

Totally agree. Never forgave them for that game.

| We won the Championship that year too, equivalent to current Grand Final.. It should have been the double.
It was obviously a big hit on the club as it wasn't until 75 that we made any impact on the league/cup. We were favourites to play Leeds at Wembley but we both lost in the semi. We lost to Hull KR in the Yorkshire Cup Final that year too.
We of course flirted with Wembley again in 79 but it has been a distant target since then. The semis against Hull and Warrington were a step too far for us really.
It would be nice to be making a good tilt at it again.
For me though the big prize is the league. And actually though not as popular with some, the league leaders trophy.
We have won challenge cups and League championships in our glory days but we have never won the league.
We've had some peaks getting to 4th in 81 (only 3 points behind Bradford at the top, and the 4th place with Kears team but they have been peaks with a valley straight after.
I'd love to see us steadily progress with this team and have a season that keeps us up in the top 4 and then on to a league leaders shield one day.

| I got married two months after the 1968 final and couldn't afford to make it down there. Like other posters, that result was the catalyst for my hatred of Leeds RLFC which continues to this day and, like Trinity1315, it wasn't because of the Fox miss-kick.
If anyone hasn't read it I would recommend David Hinchliffe's book "They Walked on Water" for his account of the match.
Would be a great anniversary celebration if we could turn the tables on the Whinos this year.

| I'm one of the lucky ones.As an 8 year old I went to Wembley in 1960.Returned again in 62,63 and 68.In 68 went on the train with 50% Leeds fans on there. The journey back was horrendous! The team homecoming was brilliant. No one would have know we'd lost!
I had realised the 50th anniversary of our last major trophy was imminent.I'm 66 now.Still hoping for a success whilst I'm still standing. Thanks mainly to MC the dream is still alive.

| TRB, FIL and I were all in the same class at school, born 1965 so missed the glory years and too young for the watersplash final. Throughout the 70's we had a few near misses in semi finals then cracked it in '79 when I could finally go to Wembley having been promised it by my dad. Alas it wasn't to be and but for a Yorkshire Cup win v Sheffield we've all been starved of success throughout our lives. I'm sure they'll both agree with me we're long long overdue a visit to a major final and after last year when we were so close I sense we're getting closer and I'm really buzzing at the prospects of our current squad. The most wonderful thing for me would be for me to take my boy to Wembley and though my dad is in his 70's now, for him to be there too. Despite the lack of success we still all love the club, it is in your blood, your hearts, your family's bond. My cousin who was brought up a massive Trinity fan now travels to watch St Helens from her Wakefield home, I could never envisage doing that. No matter we've been starved of success you still look forward every year and live in hope that this will be the year when we finally hit the jackpot again.

We have never finished top of the league in our history.

Correct Emley...my dad took us on the bus to Wembley in '79 and I will never forget that day, even though we lost.
We have supported this team prior to that, and ever since, through thin and thinner times, but we continue to dream, don't we !!
All credit to our neighbours from across t'Common for turning themselves around and if we continue in the same way that we have over the past two years under Chessie, then hopefully success will not be too far away.
To the ones that are old enough to remember the '68 final, what did Leeds do that upset everyone so much ??, as all we ever see on TV is the kick off that leads up to our try and Foxy then missing the goal

Not so much Leeds but the very biaised referee and that is being complimentary to the official. Not sure if its on Trin TV. I have a copy at home somewhere.

| I was only 9 at the time so didn’t get there, but my grandmother, bless her, was an avid Trin fan who went home and away was there and I will never forget her words when she told me that she cried all the way home. She also got me onto the Trin roller coaster ride , I went down in 79 hoping to talk about a Wakey win to her when I got home but not to be.

| Blue eyed boys from Leeds got awarded a VERY DODGY penalty try by a VERY DODGY referee which effectively won them the game.
Such "good fortune" has been with them ever since. As mentioned earlier the referee, Hebblethwaite commited suicide shortly after having been involved in a scandal concerning a stolen pork pie.
Not long after the 1968 final Leeds were, for some reason I can't recall banned from the Yorkshire Cup competition for some irregularitgies, and lo and behold the following season when they played Trinity in the YC final they were allowed to play the game on their own pitch. Leeds won very narrowly, which could have been down to home ground advantage.
I also recall a time when John Boyd chaired the Sunday Rugby League programme on Radio Leeds.
He opened the final part of the show by announcing that it had been a very bad day for RL in West Yorkshire because Leeds had lost.
Somebody rang in ask what the hell he was on about becaus 90% of WY hated Leeds, and were pleased that they'd lost. Boydy didn't kno what to say.
Then they wonder why we hate Leeds!!!

| first of all best wishes ,but as soon as I saw that rain come down in torrents I thought now we at Wembley and all the millions on TV are going to be Robbed by the weather of seeing A brilliant free flowing side from demonstrated their ball handling skills. Shades of Castleford in 2017
