| So we're 10 games in and it still doesn't look like Chester is sure of his first choice halfback combination. It would be good to see some consistency in this position so that we can hopefully start to play some better stuff in the opponents half.
That said, who does everyone think should be our starting 6 and 7?
Personally Finn has to start, we look more organised when he is on and he is the best goal kicker we have. Miller also starts for me, too creative to leave on the bench although he can be frustrating to watch at times.

| Williams and Finn for me, would like to see Williams take the line on more though. Wood at Hooker with Miller on Bench, plenty of flexibility. Miller just does not create anything for me.

To be fair to miller he's a running six surely rather than a creator? He needs to focus on always supporting the player with the ball and being ready for offloads. We are still too slow at supporting the man, twice ashhurst looked for an offload on their line and it went begging.

| Miller and Finn for me, although sometimes Miller seems to be puzzled by his own play and stands there wondering what to do next. Williams a big disappointment for me. Not lived up to his reputation.

Me too.
To be fair, for creativity and general organisation Finn is our best so must start.
Not a lot between Miller and Williams for me.

Same here, it's when we've played our best stuff imo.
Miller's not really a creating half, sure he can put the odd decent kick in but that's about it. For me he's a running, tackle busting player (he's made 29 TB, just one less than Fifita), who should be looking for players to run off him, when he makes/see's gaps and also be looking out for pass from his team mates to put him into space..

| Just to widen the discussion I'll chuck a suggestion in.
What about Scott Grix to stand off.
To me he has been our most creative player over the whole season.
Just a thought.

| A coach should be rubbing his hands with a talent like miller, if the best he can do with him is bring him off the bench his coaching skills are lacking in my opinion dont they work with the kid

| You can play ad-hog rugby off structure but you can't play structured rugby off an ad-hoc base. In a team sport there has to be structure but Miller's first instinct is to play totally individually. His lateral play and multiple changes of direction before the line prevent any of his team mates from gaining forward momentum causing us to become flat and lifeless. When he does break through there is little chance of anyone else reading his play so he is on his own.
Miller can only play in a team with a strong, dominant organising half-back.

| Grix at half back laugh out loud he is the main reason why are half backs are not clicking ,he as got no speed he is putting kicks in on the second and third tackles, makes us go to the right all the time, think it's time he was out of the team and give Max a go ,every team in the S L as a fullback with speed ,we always seem to be a season behind the way other teams are competing

| According to reports it looks like Trinity are hoping to extend contracts on all 3, Williams, Finn and Jacob Miller will all be out of contract at end of season.

You mean Chester is doing with Miller exactly what Powell does with Rangi Chase, puts a creative #6 on against tiring defences in the hope of them running rings around them...? Miller has been great off the bench this year, it's no mistake that we've performed at our best when we've started with Finn/Williams and brought Miller in from the bench.
I've not been overly impressed with any of them when I've seen them live, but having watched some games back, all of our halves are doing quite well, they're not getting enough of the ball in places were they can create something though

+1 from me, however neither Miller nor Williams are the creative playmaker that we desperately need...what about that Scott Moore guy over at Bradford, he looks quite useful ??

You are being a bit disingenuous towards Wakefield there.
IF it was a level playing field and all clubs spent the same on their players, your comments could possibly valid.
However, like it or not, Trinity are the smallest club in SL (in terms of income, no sugar daddy etc) and to be anywhere near the top 8 is a massive over achievement.
Grix has been excellent this season and although he's started to look a bit jaded in the last couple of games, it's our half backs and hooker that have been lacking.
All that possession on Monday, against Wigan and yet, we couldn't break their line.
Yes, there have been some dumb plays and giving penalties away on tackle 4 & 5 are way up there on the list but, I dont think Jowitt in for Grix will be any kind of miracle answer.
Although, I do think he should have had some game time over Easter.

Our half backs
Has got no speed
Their way.
Your vision of matches is as bad as your spelling. Grix is clearly up front for player of the year so far.
Williams/ Finn, Miller off the bench

| Sorry can not afford a secretary ,not bothered what the halfback combination is as long as Grix is not on the park, let's see what they can do without him, watched Wakfield for 60 plus years and I do no that number 1 on your shirt does not mean you are the best player in the team

| How exactly does Grix get in the way of the half backs. He is usually 3rd receiver.
The ball goes where they decide and it goes to Grix if they pass it his way.

| The only time Grix has got in the way was Monday, when, if he'd have left the pass alone, it would have gone to MCB.
If he's that bad, I would like to know how many final passes he has supplied for the score?
Grix is doing what Hardaker, O'Brien and the majority of fullbacks are doing, unfortunately he's not as quick as Hardaker and O'Brien!

Miller and Williams are both very similar in their styles, they're both great standoffs but neither of them possess a true scrumhalfs ability to read what's going on (Finn does). I'm sure they're all being coached well, an I reckon Finn is playing a good part in developing both of them. Chester is doing a cracking job with them, but it's going to take time for them all to settle into a playing system. Hopefully they all sign on for longer contracts so we can give them the time to learn and develop.
