| Have to say I’m fascinated by this one. If it were not for my natural cynicism towards MC and hid predecessors I’d call this a master stroke.
JK’s strongest asset IMO was always his ability to recruit good players overlooked by others.
If Chester is willing to listen and Kear doesn’t interfere to much he can help him tremendously with what he does best, turn coal into diamonds which is what we will need to fight it out in the middle 8.
Should Chester fail then you have an immediate coach and Director of Rugby for the championship - two jobs for the price of one.
Lets not be coy, despite the 2017 tag Kear will have covertly started his mission already which again can only help.
Kears alleged neglect of the Academy is legendary amongst some of the “legends” on here, yet few of those players made it. The much vaunted Anakin is yet to impress any of the four coaches at the club none of whom had an axe to grind with him. Maybe it’s just time to accept that team had a great season but individually they were nothing special - or is that just to controversial for some.

| I think having JK here, is a good move for the club.
He will be able to assist not only CC but also MC and CB.
John Kear does seem to be able to find players who fall off the radar. For me two of his best signings were Matty Blaymire and Scott Grix, when he came, they were in the championship. He may be able to do this again, especially when you think only a couple of years ago Alex Walmsley was at Batley.
Whilst this would be good, I would be careful about doing this for some of the more pivotal positions, people have said on here, including me, that our halves are of championship standard. That is no good when they come up against the likes of Sandow and Gidley.
Maybe some young keen English forwards, to replace the deadwood we have, maybe a cheaper option, and then bring in some quality half backs.
Peter Wallace is out of contract at the end of this year, and has mentioned an interest in Super League, and maybe one other.
We have one quota spot available now, and I think Sio, Bil Tupou and Arona are only one one year deals, and I think Anderson is in his last year, whilst I dont mind these, for the benefit of the results, I would happily see one of these moved on.
One final note, given his speed and his sidestep ability, not to mention tackling ability, could Miller do a job in the centres, as this is another position that needs addressing, as we seem to have quantity over quality there

| May seem a silly question, does kear leave batley at the end of this season? And what is a director of rugby and who does that role for you now?

I'd guess, yes Kear will leave Batley at the end of the season.
Director of rugby, signings? Contracts? Off field stuff in general.
Who does it now? Chris Bretherton and Michael Carter?
As I say I'm only guessing.

| I think this is a great signing for you guys, always liked and rated kear. As others have said he has always been great at putting a team together. Perhaps get a few of the Welsh lads playing at a higher level too.

As I understand Director of Rugby takes control of everything to do with the rugby side of the business, I think JK will be heavily involved with the first team as part of a team to contribute ideas and suggestions to Chester and be a bit of a soundboard for Chester to bounce his own ideas off of.
Also he will probably take responsibility for the environment in which the players operate and hopefully sort out a few of the niggles that Smith had.
Which leaves Chester to focus 100% on the first team and not have to worry about anything else, sounds like a good idea to me.

| Heating in the dressing rooms is a smoke screen.
Instead of putting 'home' on the door, if they put 'Costa' the place would be packed!

| Chester won't have a problem with the heating. He lives close so can get them to meet at his place and change in the dining room.

Well keeping the ball long enough to have a kick on the sixth would be an improvement!
