What interested me tonight was Child penalising a Cas player (Holmes I think) for playing the ball at ninety degrees, same as the one St’s did last week, only they didn’t get penalised – strange that

All of that and more but Shudds were head and shoulders better than us. I don't know how I managed it but I got the game on in the first half without the sky commentary but picking up every thing the ref and assistants said very clearly. It was 20 minutes in before I even realised it and to be fair you don't need it when you have such good audio with the officials. I was viewing it on line and made the mistake of coming off at half time to view the forum, when I went back on I had the muppets in my ear again. It really does stop you concentrating on the game.

It's just a confusing mess of voices, with Eddie trying to hold it all together with his pointless platitudes; Terry O' Connor adds nothing of any value and Stevo is just a total irrelevance - rather sadly, he just sounds like a confused old man, and it's about time they put him (and us) out of our misery, perhaps by taking his own interminably repeated advice - try something a bit different.

Stuart Cummings is possibly the dullest man ever to be given a microphone and his interjections in defence of the officials wouldn't be required if Eddie and Stevo weren't given free reign to manufacture infringements that never happened ("did he get a fingertip to it?" Seriously?!) or to spend several minutes analysing every decision while the game rolls on.

Brian Carney is the saving grace - he's articulate, relevant and seems capable of calling the game without the awkward banter, irrelevant coaching advice or pointless analysis of referee decisions; I have to assume that no Sky Sports Exec bothers to watch their own SL coverage - if they did, there would surely be some realisation that the best, most exciting team sport in the world is made to look shambolic and amateurish by their own commentary team.

Seriously, when the commentators are ruining your enjoyment of a game, it's time for a change.

Spot on but i doubt it will change any time soon unless somebody decides to retire.

Yep I agree. Carney worth a wage and Barry is interesting and entertaining. Along with Studd they are capable of short bursts of silence which is also pleasing.
In terms of wasted money then there is non more so than the microphones they wear - we are not allowed at any point to listen to conversations between player and referee . Instead they completely drown out the sound leaving us with only what they think.....and I am sick to the back teeth with what they think ! (I quite like Clarkey )

I have not been as critical of Stevo as some in the past as I think he plays a character, but I think he's coming to the end now.

The problem is, Eddie is still the lead but there is no obvious Stevo replacement. Barry probably the best choice.
Carney is there to replace Eddie, as he already is going on Boots and All.

I'd give Tony Rea a spot as the full time summariser.

I also used to like Clarkey, he spoke about the game like Carney does now.
But something changed and he stopped being interesting and fell into the Eddie and Stevo line of commentating and summarising.
Terry bounces off Barry and without Barry, is a bit lost but he has played the game in the Super League era, so I'm quite happy with his views on the game.
I just hope Carney keeps his refreshing attitude to commentating and keeps challenging co-commentators and Cummins, when it's obvious they are wrong.

I'm glad Stevo has recovered from his latest illness but wish he would now take a nice long holiday to fully recover. His TV character is a 'joke' that Sky want him to be and is there just to make Eddie look good. The commentaries without Stevo were much better than with him and could be improved without Eddie too as the Catalan commentaries have proved, and that's without the commentators of those games being at the ground and just watching the TV broadcast like us.
I think Stevo is a great person and knows a lot about the game but he is not allowed to show that in the games, or doesn't want to show it in order to do what his paymasters want, and he is not what the game needs these days.

I wouldn't personally do it with the distraction behind, but I do like the idea of the guys just sitting having a chat rather than the interview style where they seem a bit stiff
