Think that's the pay off's to four players, I'd assume they don't count against the salary cap or AP has dropped himself right in it!

Not sure how that works. If you spend full cap, but then owe someone the following year, then how can that be right?

I'm guessing the value involved here was set against previous years SC, otherwise it's well dodgy!

Don't think it counts against the cap unless they play a game, which obviously they won't. It does though seem a convenient way around the cap by being able to forward money to a later date.

But if the money owed is for 2012 or 2013, then it must count against the cap for that year - otherwise we could pay Cooper Cronk £20k this year, but owe him £200k over the next 10 years!

Why is anyone surprised? The salary cap is quite clearly only advisory for those club chairmen who have the means to make it so; I've pointed out many times in the past how easy it would be for a well connected chairman with a half decent accountant to run rings round the RFL's compliance function and I'm 100% certain that the Salford, Wigan, Warrington and Shudds' of this world do it without fear of sanction.

Interesting that the article mentions the use of an Employee Benefit Trust Scheme - just one of the dodgy ways I've previously mentioned that a club can get maximum elasticity out of the salary cap; a small salary paid to the player, with the rest of his package being paid in the form of loans (never repayable) or other benefits; they were primarily used for tax avoidance purposes.

They can't be that hard up if they paid a £100,000 fee for Marc Sneyd

and to think this time last year it was us the main talking point of the end of the season, lets see the stance on the RFL on this one
