3 years? Wow. I guess as a negotiation Trinity split his desired wage over three years rather than two to make it more manageable but still it's a hell of a long deal for such an average player.

I'm content with this. Okay 3 is a little steep but he's got years ahead of him and for the most part did a good job for us this year.

Riley 1 year
Owen 3 year

He may as well not bother turning up next season with the way a lot are carrying on on here.

It's funny that for all our signings, this one is getting a very cold response.
And I think it is more to has manner and his off field stories than his playing ability.

If he can get in to the team work ethic he could be very good for us and we could be very good for him.
Before his injury he looked like he would be a real star. He clearly hasn't lost it altogether and being back in a club like our could help him.

Problem is, we don't know for sure and it's hard to win over fans when they've made up their mind. I'm not the type to hold a grudge against a player, it's just a game after all, but I'll take some convincing that he is a Wakefield type player.

Owen improved when Tim Smith came into the team. With a good preseason I think he'll go well. He can also play wing or full back.

Forget about past off field antics and give the lad a chance.
Pre his injury he was far above 'average'.
Lets hope he can get it back!

A bit of hypocrisy from you PopTart starting another thread on Owen when you always criticise others for doing so.

I saw all the games he played for us on loan and on those performances I would not have signed him.

However some are suggesting the guy has more to offer than we saw. Some are saying he showed huge
potential before his injury and are hoping he will find lost form and prove a good signing.

I also remember the form he showed in his early days at Cas and I really hope he can return to that level.

However, my suggestion would have been sign him on a shorter contract and see how he performs.
If he comes good then it can be extended.

Hardly going to get the masses running out to buy season tickets, although the scapegoat position is now sorted. His demeanour is the thing thats lets him down the most but imho he is nothing better than average anyway. 3 years for an average player, have we learned nothing?

Gutted - saw nothing from him with us last year - apart from looking totally disinterested and having a great ability to wander around with his hands on his hips. Doesn't look much of an athlete to me. One of the laziest players i've seen - 3 years is mental.

1-2 year deal with options to extend would've been a more prudent offer. If Owen and his agent didn't accept those terms it should have been no deal.

I believe that Tim Smith and Chris Riley were offered longer deals but were only prepared to sign one year deals.

Cas away last season showed him up - they just kicked/attacked his corner as much as possible & he couldn't cope .

Then why didn't some of the Wakey type players' help him out?

They'd have probably been pulled up for obstruction & penalised ...being Wakey type players .

Pull your necks in, I havnt got a problem with the signing just the length of it. Would have prefered maybe Tim Smith getting the 3 year deal.

In terms of length of contract, without knowing the details, how can anyone complain?
KH does not seem like someone to be messed about with on contract negotiations.

For all we know it could be a lower cost deal over 3 years rather than a more expensive one for 1 year.
I personally don't like him as a person (and I only know him through 3rd hand stories and seeing him play) but I defer on rugby knowledge to Webster and contract negotiations to Kath.

Have to b honest don't know which cas game sum people were watching.But from wot I saw they kicked at him all first half he did very well .so they started kicking at sum one else.I would ac gave him 2 not 3 years.but iam not running the club

3 years is amazing , when we couldn’t even offer one of our own (who has more utility, determination and guts), a contract to resign . The judgement sits full square at the door step of j/W

Unlike others I don't mind Owen. I think finding a home for 3 years rather than being a loan player will do a guy like him good. Surprisingly he's still only 24 and could have his best years in front of him.

Personally wouldn't have gone for 3 years , more like 2. But hey I don't know what his contact is or how the negotiating went down. Under MC I just can't see any over the top contracts being handed out.
