Very sad to hear about the death of Rick Mayell. Least political yet funniest of the new wave comedians. Very much of my generation, makes me feel very mortal.

Many happy memories of some of is stuff, probably a marmite type of guy but I loved him.

Devestated. The world is a sadder place without him. Alan Berresford B'stard was a legendary character.

I liked him, was a young ones fan growing up, also enjoyed bottom & the new statesman. A sad day. RIP.

I used to laugh myself daft at the dangerous brothers.

That is so sad, much too young to have gone.

Very sad news, my favourite was The Young Ones & whilst it hasn’t stood the test of time, in it’s day the comedy was politically cutting.

Was shocked to hear this earlier. I was obsessed with re-runs of The Young Ones and Filthy, Rich & Catflap as a kid then when Bottom arrived it allowed me to witness Mayall's brand of anarchic comedy first hand.

A sad day.

Very sad news - if you're a 40 something, you'll have fond memories of watching The Young Ones, then going to school the next day and doing a Rik impression.

I also loved him reading 'George's Marvellous Medicine' on Jackanory - made my son a Roald Dahl fan, which can never be a bad thing.

I watched the clip from Bottom last night when he was put in charge of the shop - absolutely hilarious .
He'll be missed .
