Just been watching good morning sports fans on sky,Has anyone told them there is an rl world cup final today very poor.

They had no viewing rights to it so why would they advertise it for someone to think "oh i'll watch that, what channel is it on?" only for them to find out its on the beeb, and sky loses a viewer.

Can they not mention a sport without telling you witch tv channel its on then.

Have Sky got the rights to the Union WC? If not it will be interesting to compare and contrast. The cynic in me believes they will cover it in great depth.

It's a commercial reality I suppose that whilst they claim to 'never stop thinking about rugby league,' they actually do if it's a comp they haven't bought the rights to.

I can see how it seems a bit churlish but in a competitive environment, why would they promote a competitors product?

In thay case they need an apostrophe followed by an s tagged on the end of Sky prior to Sports News.

But they have a Sports NEWS channel that has completely ignored the RLWC13

Whether they've got the rights to the comp itself or not they should report sports news impartially and without agenda.

Its a tournament that they have no coverage of so they are not in the slightest bit interested.
But its a Sports News channel so should report everything.

How long is left on the sky deal? Be very interesting if bt sports started showing a interest! From what I've seen of the union coverage and their weekly highlights show they have really gone to town with the indepth analysis and commentary team, sky should be looking over there shoulders as bt sport does seem to have money to burn at the moment.

MC at the last meeting mentioned that BT sports were interested in buying the rugby league rites and already getting the Champions League they must be worried about competition like BT.

Beware what you wish for. Remember Oracle and their stupendous Football League deal, which nearly sent the lower league clubs bust when they went bust. BT are paying stupid amounts of money. At some point, it will realise it isn't making money and pull out. Look at all those who have dabbled with some football rights. Setanta. Then ESPN.

It should be about exposure too, not just pound signs.

I'm not surprised the world cup wasn't mentioned by a commercial organisation whose only interest is keeping viewers. It would be like expecting Asda to advertise the latest Tesco deals. It's not sport. It's commerce.

I watched sky sports news on friday and saw a interview with both captains for the final. They havent extensivly covered the RLWC but they havent totally ignored it?

I watched the report on Sky Sports News.
They made a point of saying that 60% of the tickets bought for the double header were bought in the south and South East.
Made quite a big thing of the development of rugby in the South.
Think London are safe for next year and possibly beyond.

But where will the money come from to run the or a club??

Yes they can. I didn't suggest that they couldn't. They clearly made a commercial decision not to mention it as they didn't have the rights to it. You may roll your eyes at that, but in the grand scheme of things, TV subscriptions are a big business and these things, which some think are a bit petulant, are what they do as part of the bigger plan to retain and attract new custom.

So if they don't get the rights to the next Football world cup can we expect that SKY Sports News will be all but devoid of any news about it?

It might sound a bit grandiose but the RLWC13 is the largest multi national event taking place this year, I fail to see how a [uSports News Channel[/u can ignore it and think that they're still credible.

Regardless of the RLWC being the largest multi national event, its Rugby league, which sky were clearly prepared to make a stand over.

I totally get what you're saying, but unfortunately, or fortunately depending which side of the fence you sit on, I think weve seen sky make their bed over RL and I think the SL rights will be with another premium sports channel before not too long!
