| Well following on from the Amor to Saints story ( which they actually got right) - today's news is that we're selling off 13 players !
For Christ sake ...how much debt do they think we're in ?
We've got money in for 2 players already ( & obviously saving on their wages too ) , so we can't be miles away surely ?
It'll be an interesting meeting Monday anyway

| I think the 'how much debt' is a huge question, JE/AG should be hung drawn and quartered.

| Got to be lazy journalism, we aint got another 10 players who would command a fee! At the end of all the wheeling and dealing 13 may have gone....not seen the article but does it just come across as worse than it actually is?

| This is the story
"WAKEFIELD WILDCATS’ new chairman Michael Carter is set to send the club’s fans into panic mode with a firesale of players.
The accountant’s number crunching will see 13 players depart as CEO James Elston carries out orders to plug a £400,000 gap in the club accounts and ensure the Inland Revenue is paid around £200,000 in tax.
Players’ contracts run out on November 30 — and Carter will then finally look to the future as he and coach Richard Agar (left) plot how to put together a side for a potentially hard 2014 campaign.
Agar is currently in Australia with NRL champions Sydney City Roosters.
But he is bracing himself to lose captain, Player of the Season and star forward Danny Kirmond.
Warrington, Salford and Leeds want the 27-year-old, who only signed a contract extension in August.
Liam Kay is also the subject of bids by Featherstone and Halifax.
The desperate situation is a far cry from the start of the season, when the Wildcats pulled in more than 9,000 fans and knocked over some Super League big guns.
They eventually finished 11th.
Wakefield have also severed their dual registration agreement with Doncaster."

| That articles is so full of holes. Elston isn't CEO, Kay is OOC so a bid for him isn't necessary and Trinity didnt beat any big teams last season.
Having to shed a number of players is probably accurate though.

| it did say in this mornings WE that the with 15 or 16 players we curently have we are running at next years cap, so maybe he (Mr Parker) has just taken 15 from the squad list total and arrived at a figure; as stated above lazy journalism if so.

| 13 may be a touch extreme but I'd suspect there's still a fair few more out of the door yet.
Your speaking of saving on wages, But I doubt many clubs will take a players contract on for you for the next 7 weeks. So your stuck paying it.
And, Barring 1 or 2 that remain. The rest have minimal value in transfer fees.

| The mention of the contract date makes me think that the ones ooc will be amongst them and theres 4 of those i think? (Wildie, Kay, Goulding & Cowling). Add in the 5 that have already left (or about to) then there's only another 4 to go IF the article is right. Kirmond, Aiton, Poore & Collis (maybe Annakin also at a push) are probably the only ones that anyone would pay a fee for and would be worth around 200-300K between them so you would think it would be them.
Certainly would leave a derth of quality if true though.

I'm sure you are going to hear some straight talking on Monday. Michael Carter and Chris Brereton will not give you any "bull".

You might be lucky to get 200K for those 4. The 3 imports would be a case of getting them of the wage bill. Kirmond won't be going anywhere IMO. He is integral to your survival in SL.

The way I see it, If Kirmond doesn't go, And investment doesn't come in. There won't be a Wakefield.
He is your one gem, You may get nominal fee's for the others. But nothing extreme, Leeds for instance don't pay big fees. They paid £40k for Joel Moon, So you'd be looking at similar for Aiton, But you could work a deal which gains you players either on loan or in return.
But I presume you will be holding out as long as possible before the sale of Kirmond goes through, Which, Invitably. It will, to the highest bidder.

| It just shows how precarious a Superleague Club's finances can be. Many of our fans have berated our Board to spend more on players, but the Club is being very cautious, obviously aware that a few clubs are wobbling a bit.
We still bear the scars from our own financial collapse after falling out of Superleague previously, which probably set us back 4 years (costing us a licence for 2009). Having come out of Administration yourselves, it must be doubly galling to be in the brown stuff so soon! Having said that we have a long history (apart from our 1970/80s Glory Years) of having to sell our best players to survive (prior to Superleague being formed we had to allow several players including Mr J Davies to leave for nothing, just because we couldn't meet his contract payments, and a few more went as well, but we avoided Administration that time). I thought it was wrong that Bradford managed to avoid doing that, at the end of the day you sell what assets you have.
Hopefully you will generate enough cash to remove the risk of Administration!
