Ref was fine this weekend, its not about this weekend, its about the game as a whole.

You hand on heart, believe that this game is run properly? Honestly?

There will always be contentious officiating in all sports for as long as humans are judging.

There are wider issues than refereeing standards. If it was a petition to jettison Nigel Wood then I'm all for it.

Come now, don't think we can be ones to patronise this motion after our Klein petition and chasing KK off the pitch.

FWIW I think that the refs have a very difficult job, the game is so fast now and the penalties tend to come during tackles which can consist of up to 5 men - impossible to get it right all the time.

Consistency is an issue though, but then again in football there are some refs known as harsh, lenient etc.

You'd need a big hole for that, could we afford the landfill tax.

I thought thats why the RFL bought Odsal. (Appologies to Agar for sort of stealing his joke)

Ref's have an impossible job.
They cant get everything right and they do get the majority of calls right.
Of course they make howlers too and M. Alibert giving Warrington a try on the 7th tackle against Wakey last season jumps to mind but, your petition should be to encourage more folk to take up refereeing.
If you are asking whether the game is well run, then you will have plenty of takers.
RL is at the risk of implosion with the current hierarchy in charge and if we don't implement a plan for the long term good of the game (instead of the current trend of trying to find a quick fix) then we are in deep trouble.

The referees don't help, and as I said in the petition, mistakes happen. I do appreciate that.

But why can't we video ref the forward pass? Why has putting a player on report taken the place of a sin bin? Why are video referees getting decisions so blatantly wrong?

Questions like that need answering.

Referees have always made errors, some small and some real blooprs.
I agree about the "on report" system which gives the ref an "easy out" and whilst some forward
passes are really obvious, others are borderline and can be proved either way and the cameras would
only complicate things.

It's a fair call - the standard of refereeing in this country is at an all time low; it's particularly depressing when one observes the tender years of Messrs Child, Roby and Hicks for example, who are likely to be officiating at the top level for many years to come - we can only hope they get better with experience.

The mistake is with the RFL - they should be working really hard to ensure quality and consistency from the grassroots level, and as someone who has been on the wrong end of some truly dreadful refereeing performances at junior level in recent years, they don't appear to be doing that. Succession planning is not that difficult but it does require foresight and some creativity - I don't see much evidence of either.

I'll be honest, I haven't watched too many 2 ref Aussie games, but the ones I have, it seems to impove matters. The game is indeed fast and when was it ever possible to look at 2 things at once? How can you judge the offside line and watch the play of the ball at the same time for example? But...and its so boring to repeat, what are the touch judges doing? Perfect for the offside and forward passes; it only needs radio comms of some kind and the imperative to do it to clamp down on both...SURELY??!!

I totally agree - no point throwing lots of extra cash and technology at a problem when you're not making best use of the resources that are already deployed.
