| Got to admit that even though I like Nathan Brown and would love him to change his mind about saints and come to Belle Vue (I can dream), I can;t say I agree with him here.
Henderson was born in England so why stop him playing for England? Crazy

Didn't our Henderson play for Scotland? Lets face it if Chase or Henderson were good enough they'd be playing for their 'real' countries but they aren't so they settle for the next best thing much as the likes of Brough do with Scotland when they can't get in the England team. We will never catch the Aussies/Kiwis if we continue to select players that they deem not good enough to play for them.

Not about Henderson he isn't; he was born in Torquay and his parents are English.
He's dead right about Chase though.

| Seems strange that the RFL have an immigration section. Let the people whose job it is decide nationality. If they are committed enough and eligible to hold a British passport, then they can be considered for selection.

I'd go along with that except for I would insist that if they had previously played for a different Nation then they should not be considered.
Once you nail your colours to the mast that should be it for me. None of this "I played for Scotland because I couldn't get in the England team but now the players who were in front of me are gone I want to play for England" or "Yes I was a junior kiwi and it was always my dream to play for NZ but as they won't pick me I'll choose a country that will"
Players should choose their country and stick to it, even if it means them not playing internationally, they should not be aloowed to change nationailities at the drop of a hat just to get a game IMO.

Good on him.

I would but I'm a mercenary!
The clubs need to look at themselves as well. Why aren't they developing talent good enough to make it in to the international squads? Often because their progress is stunted by imports who aren't actually that good and they will learn nothing from.

I think the counter-argument for this is that the easiest way for RL to grow in certain areas is to let those players not good enough/not good anymore be allowed to play for their "2nd choice" nation - and I am thinking mainly Australians/Kiwis playing for the Island nations once they are no longer good enough to play for Oz/NZ. Not saying I agree with it by any means, but I think this is part of the reason why they dont just have the system whereby you can't change countries once you have chosen.

| I agree with Nathan Brown 100%. If you are born in the county of Yorkshire in the country of England and that country is part of Great Britain then you would be eligable to play for your county, Yorkshire, your country England and you would then have the right to represent Great Britain. If you are a Kiwi or and Aussy and just because you are a bit good and go shopping in Morrisons and like the odd pint of Tetleys does not make you English. What chance does our up and coming English players have of playing for their country. No brainer

I think Daniel Anderson suggested something similar, or having a two-tier international system, which in reality, we already do. You can pay for one major nation, and if not selected, play for the 'minor' nation, but can't move to another major or minor nation once you've made your choice.
Problem is now with international sport, the rules allow you to play for a nation you have no real connection with. It's not just League, and I think we beat ourselves up too much over it when other, more high profile sports, do it even more!
(BTW, the Scottish union side have selected a Dutch born player today, wonder if they'll have the same discussions.)

| In cricket I know they've just tightened the rules up around this, they're now, if someone enters the Country before they're 18 they have to go through a residence period of 4 years and if they enter after their 18th birthday they will need to complete a residence period of seven years. They basically increased the length of residence from 4 to 7 years for people not born in England.

Problem is he has included Henderson in his point. So you don't agree with him in your statement.
He can't play for Yorkshire but he can represent England and Great Britain.
Where Rangi is concerned, he is a Kiwi. No more to add on that.
