| Saw it yesterday as well. Jamie Langley has commented on how good it is with th exposure it gets the game as a whole not just us as a club, he was very impressed and wishes the game got more exposure like this.

Why? Are TV adverts banned for lower league games?

I can't see the club sustaining that part of its marketing strategy on a Championship income; no other SL clubs are doing it on a SL income, so that seems a reasonable assumption to make.

True, I suppose. But it would be nice for other clubs, not just Wakey, to do such marketing to try and raise the profile of the Championships & rugby league as a whole.

Other clubs are free to do so; Wakefield may be shouldering the full burden of publicising RL in West Yorkshire on prime time TV at present, but there's nothing stopping other clubs getting involved.

Ask honest Ricky to make you one. With an estimated £150,000,000 deal imminent money shouldn't be a problem!

There is a point there. For the cost, is it effective in getting people into the ground? What is it about the advert that is meant to make people want to come watch?
The poor crowd is mentioned on another thread, and for games where there is no natural rivalry or little away support, then the club should be working overtime on ideas to get people in the ground. All well and good pulling a big crowd against Leeds, but there's no challenge there.
Take a leaf from baseball say where the MLB clubs have roughly 90 games to get crowds in for every season, most of which are on TV. They'll have 'legends day' rather than have a diminishing level of 'guest' throughout the year or silly things like 'Red, white and blue day' or 'Heritage day' - everyone wearing the colours or and old shirt gets discounted entry, or a free programme or something.
The old favourite is to give away some sort of hat, t-shirt or flag with a sponsors logo on (so they pay for it) and the club badge to promote both - and this especially works for TV games for maximum exposure to the viewing audience.
In this era in sport, for everything outside football, you have to sell the event, not just the game.

Sadly, I didn't copyright them, so IA was able to flog my 'Services Day' idea to the Whinos. I'm in talks with my legal team [size=50(2 blokes in the pub)[/size on that one.
You're right though - several weeks ago I posted some marketing ideas for the upcoming games, that took about 5 minutes to come up with; some people thought there were some good ideas in there but none were implemented, so I guess the club didn't agree.

Given the fact it pi$$ed it down before the game, the Hudds Town game was on TV, start of the school jollys, bank holiday, and a fixture against a team that sparks little interest with the RL fans of wakey it was a good crowd.
Did not see one away supporter.

| I think the playoff final coupled together with school holidays and a bank holiday will have take around 1000 off the gate IMO.

| Its a poor attendance imo. Yesterdays game is not one for the floaters and its just the hardcore that turned up.
IMO it wil take years to build up and won't happen overnight no matter how hard the club work at it, if we start to win it will pick up but untill the franchise decisions made we are in limbo and can't sign any players to strengthen what we have.
We need to stick together and dig in untill better times come calling.

Lets hope so.
I get the feeling that quite a few fans are expecting a "jaw dropper" and i can't see it happening, thats just from listening to fans at the ground and the amount of rumours and fairytales i've heard, i do hope i'm wrong but i expect more of a cheap wine that a fine one.
Good news no doubt but for me it'll not be what some are looking for.

| Its ok blaming other factors like school hols & play off football for the attendance but but just down the road Cas got 7K against a team that also won't have taken any fans. I've got a feeling we may well be left with the 'hardcore' for the rest of the season. Part of the problem is we just aren't a good side to watch. We play a boring one-man brand of rugby and lack any players who have any flair to make us an exciting team to watch. I know people that have come down this season to see a game for the first time in a while and quoted that it was boring. They aren't likely to be back in a hurry. We are in the entertainment industry but we aren't very entertaining! Have a hard working young team might be enough to appease the regulars but it ain't gunna get the floating Wakey fans to part with twenty quid to watch what is in essence championship quality rugby, especially now as our season looks to be over.

If this announcent is anything other than huge then an awful lot of people are going to feel very let down. If it turns out to be a damp squib after all the hype then AG will lose a lot of the credability he's built up. I'm sure he's a a bit too savvy to let that happen isn't he?

There was one. The guy in the burger stand at the north-west corner pretty much nailed his colours to the mast with his outbursts in the second half, although I suspect he was just a Cas fan taking the p!ss.
