| Everything that happened today was bordering on farcical and I can imagine even with a £20 entry fee the gate wouldn't have been much smaller which isn't a bad thing in hindsight as neutrals wouldn't have come again after witnessing things today.

| At the risk of being hammered personally I felt the whole event was a bit random/disappointing. There was obviously the performance of Trinity, but the kicking for gold was never going to happen in a month of Sundays for the adults. I also felt it was very harsh on the kids not allowing the younger lads to move closer to the sticks. I also had to question the whole Last Post etc and the remembering our loved ones your loved ones every bodies loved ones forces etc, followed by the long list of names and the reading. I am may be in a minority but I just did not get it or feel it was appropriate to such a level.

| got to agree ref the kids (they must have been gutted)
here's a pair of golden boots, but we'll only let you reach half way to the goal. a bit harsh.
I can understand the £3k. you needed to do something special to win, unfortunately they all tied their laces together

I like to pay respects but I didn't know who to pay it to. Maybe the Cumbria victims was appropriate and the past legends could have been honoured at our first SL fixture at Newmarket.

Agreed. I have no problem with paying my respects in fact I think it is a great part of our game that we do honour individuals and groups from time to time when it is appropriate, but today it was way OTT for me. I felt the Last Post and reading were in fact totally inappropriate at such an occasion.
Smacked of a club trying way too hard and getting it wrong on this occasion.

| The whole thing seemed very random, a good idea in principle but the execution could've been better. I suppose the weather and the abject performance from the home side did not help matters.

| Everything that was planned looked good in advance; in reality, it mostly fell on its ar5e due, by the looks of it, to sloppy planning and poor execution.
The kids kicking was indeed desperately unfair; it was obvious that none of them had a cat in hells chance of making that kick - I felt really bad for them!

| I for one would like to take the opportunity to thank the club for the way in which they have supported myself and my family, when we lost our dad a couple of month's ago.
As far as I understand it there will a day every season, where fans' names who have passed away that year, will be remembered before the game.
I found it very touching, and I know my dad would have appreciated it. I'm sure this is felt by the other families also.
It was a lovely gesture, which my family really thank the club for.
My dad loved Trinity, although I wish he had put in a good word 'upstairs' for us today!

I was unaware this was the case, and as such it does make more sense, was this common knowledge or just known by those who were involved in the proceedings?

Agreed - we had a name on the roll of honour today and it was a very touching moment; I appreciated that. Everything before and after it though seemed a bit clumsy and cack-handed (including the team performance, but that's well covered in other threads)

I don't know if it was common knowledge. As although I'm a Wakefield supporter I travel from South Lincs to home games, so tend to be out of the loop somewhat; although I understand from other family members that there was something in the Wakefield Express about the nature of the minute's silence.
Francis S told me that the club had had many requests to remember fans, from families etc, so today was a result of the club listening to fans and trying to help. I think we need to really celebrate the things we do right as a club.
My dad wasn't one for the limelight, so would have liked the idea of being remembered along with other fans.

Yes we should celebrate this IMO.

| A great idea, but surely it would have been a good idea to announce this in the build up to the minutes silence so that everyone at the ground could have been aware of what was going on.
I am sure I was not the only one confused by it all as not only myself and dad but a number of fans from both clubs commented on the slightly random to us nature of proceeding.

| I think on a sunny day with the game going our way you may have all thought differently about the events the club put on.
I always aprove of a minute's silence (but didn't really know why it was happening as the speaker system in the stands is shocking), and I actually enjoyed the whole 'kick for gold' contest. To be honest it was far more entertaining than our team's performance!

The threads about Kicking for Gold - so forget the silence (or clapping as some of the crowd did!!!!)
The Kick comp was an absolute farce and an embarassment. Setting a competition which is in fact impossible to win is probably illegal.

Some of the crowd clapped because Mr Smith blew his whistle at the wrong time; it was meant to be names - reading - Last Post - minutes silence, ended by Mr Smith's whistle. Instead, the daft get blew his whistle after the Last Post and some people in the crowd got confused and started clapping.
That, coupled with the Wigan players running straight through the Dolls whilst they were still 'performing', pretty much summed up how the pre-match stuff went.

| The guy on the microphone did state that the minutes silence would start on the referee's whistle after the last post.
Got to say I was a little dissapointed with the club yesterday. My lad was the one in the pink Stanley Rangers shirt who kicked for goal, he is 10 yrs old and had absolutely NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER of making that kick. The guys who organised actually wanted them to kick from FURTHER BACK!!! It was only after some discussion that it was moved to the 25/30 yrd mark. My lad was gutted, after practising for an hour on Sunday morning from a reasonable distance, he thought he might be in with a shout of winning the boots. I actually told him before he kicked it that I would be buying him some boots myself because he had no chance of kicking it anyway
Very shortsighted of the club imho, I am a box holder at the moment, but don't think I will be next year. Still smarting about it today
