Does anyone know whether this disaster will actually pay homage to Wakefield Trinity, or is just another of WMDC using the only good thing in the City, apart from theatre, and Catrhedral ((which they barely support)there are some good things in outlying towns) to promote itself.

The Catherdral is part of one of the most Financial secure entitys in the country - why would the Council need to support it?

Why shouldn't the council support a major regeneration project which will bring jobs to the area?

How about cepia images, names of famous players in the floor, not a lot needed to pay homage to 130 years of success.

The OP does make a good point though; there should be something in this development that recognises the clubs or an individual from the clubs contribution to the heritage of Wakefield.

In Cardiff’s, St David Centre there is a huge statue of Gareth Edwards, in the Meadowhall there is a huge statue of 3 steelworkers and so on. I think it would be great if there were a statue of Neil Fox, something which young kids would grow up seeing every weekend and would know who he was/is and what he did to deserve a statue. By understanding this they would also automatically learn about Wakefield Trinity and it's when that kind of affinity is fostered at a young age that lifelong allegiances are made.

It's about time this council of ours began to recognise that the rugby club is not just a rugby club anymore!
The evolution of the club over the last ten years has seen it become a tool for education, social reforming and so on. In many ways the club has become the best avenue to reconnect to many of our wayward teens and a conduit for offering direction to school kids that might otherwise find less desirable role models elsewhere.

What about a statue recreating the famous Wembley photo of Derek Turner on the shoulders of his team mates with the Challenge Cup held above his head?

Something along those lines would be a great tribute to the club from the council and would go a long way toward deflecting the criticism of the council that they have zero regard for Trinity and what they mean to the City of Wakefield.

We’ve just built a multi million pound arts museum dedicated to Barbara Hepworth in recognition of her contribution to the image of Wakefield around the world and Henry Moore sculptures adorn the city centre, Hell we've even got Rhubarb statues scattered throughout the city!

Apart from all else the presence of the statues in the other shopping centre's actually enhances the feel and the ambiance of those venues!
