But I am confused with what Box has said, as I read it , its the district and not just the City of Wakefield. So knowing Box all those events will be held at the civic centre in Cas or at Xcape.

Oh I've just remembered, Boxy intends to build at replica of Ponte Castle , perhaps thats where he will hold those events.

Talking about pride in the City and business confidence in the City when the new stadium at newmarket gets built this will increase confidence in the City no end. I was reading an article in last nights YEP saying that if leeds don't get a Arena built that it would knock the business confidence of leeds, the same can be said about our new stadium.

I wonder if the new Art Gallery on Thornes wharf will have some kind of function area which would be suitable for the BBC sports personality of the year awards/Turner prize etc. I'm all for bidding for this kind of thing as long as we can do it properly, it would be extremely embarrassing to see Wakefield host these events in some kind of ramshackle make do way that made us look like hairy assed yokels.

One of the funniest things I have read for a while. Almost as funny as Wakefield Council actually believing Yorkshire County Cricket would relocate to Durkar, and look at the amount of money the council wasted on that!

and despite the smal mindedness of others on here it isnt as daft as it sounds, and other performance settings are subject to other bids in other places in wakefield city and airedale for example, its a surprise to me but I do know the places exist or will exist to make it viable.

missed the boat on the arena 10 years ago when Peter Ridsdale was in charge at LUFC. If they'd have gone ahead with the redevelopment of , which included an arena, that would have been fine. Now, they're scrabbling around for land to stick it in, and wanting development agencies to help fund it - which , as a commercial competitor, is not too pleased about!
