| I think people are misunderstanding what a Trojan Horse is, because the horse was a gift that concealed a threat. Here, there is no concealment. There isn't going to be a sudden reveal in three seasons, when the ground is revamped, that makes them go, "it's Rodney!" We all know it's Rodney. It's out there, unconcealed, and if the club is happy to deal with the football club, because it benefits Trinity, then fine.
People like Rodney might be whatever people think they are, but people like him are dabblers, always spinning numerous plates in the hope that one bags a bonus. He is choosing to spin a football club at the moment, but he can't force the club to do anything.
The reality is that Wakefield FC will never be anything other than a lower league club, along the line of Accrington Stanley. I live not far from there, and people in Accrington support either Blackburn or Burnley. That was Bury's problem. The kids plump for one of the Manchester giants, particularly as Bury has become a Manchester suburb in truth.
When I point out to people where I live that Wakefield is the biggest place in England without a proper football club, demonstrating its heartland status, I concede that there are many people in Wakefield who live closer to Elland Road than a lot of people in Leeds.

| Quote ="alegend"Fishermanscap all they are saying is that Walker did us no favours[u having the 106 agreement removed from the contract when the plans for the new stadium at Newmarket was first put on the table[/u'"
Don't remember that at all and how would he remove a S106? the plans were rubber stamped by the Secretary of State, the problems all along were to do with trigger points and then the Council allowing a separate application that didn't count to any trigger point in that Newcold. Can't remember if Walker knew about that and didn't tell the other Trust members but relationships broke down because Walker got discovered having meetings with the Council and the Developer without inviting other Trust Members to attend. So the Board resolved that no meetings could take place without there being at least two Trust Members present. That came to a head in February 2017 when Rodney announced that he would resign(pushed) from the Trust and that he was in the process of establishing another Trust with 4 new Trustees which would deliver the community stadium rather than the Wakefield & District Community Trust. So it all ended in tears between RW and the rest of the trust guys and the Club, so MC etc knows exactly what he did and knows full well what he's about, both bad and good. ATM we're just selling their shirts.

As I rember it RW was having meetings on his own with the council/planners, he was involved with the 106 (which guaranteed the ground being built subject to trigger points being hit) agreement being circumvented meaning Newcold got their massive fridge without any trigger points attached.

Tbh though as far as the S106 trigger points, the Council or the SoS could have seen that was an area for abuse by a dodgy developer a mile away and should have seen it; plus it was WMDC that agreed to the planning of the Newcold - they had the authority to put a stop to the shenanigans ages ago but didn't.
slightly O/T but i saw something I'd completely forgotten about when I was just looking up how it came to an end with RW and the Trust - RW bought jimmy bloody Saville's holiday home in Scarborough for him to take the grand kids to on holiday, he can do what he wants with his money but a bit weird & creepy all around.

Er, in your initial post, you said at [ievery[/i level - which would include the leagues that I mentioned.
The joke in lower league/national league level of football is how do you turn your £20m pot into £5m pot?
Buy a lower league/national league /NLN/NLS football club.
That was the point I was trying to make.
It happens at that level - so [iobviously[/i will happen at even [ilower[/i levels in the pyramid.

He says he was in the process of the buying it before the world found out he was a monster. Also he bought it because he's owned a flat in the same block for 30 odd years and needs more space . No wonder though silly rumors start like that and also RW's association with the NSPCC.

Bulls fan in peace. I'm not 100% on the criteria for the grants for football, but locally Bradford Park Avenue (they play in national league North) have just had to purchase the lease from Bradford Council in order to get access to grant money to develop facilities at Horsfall stadium. They couldn't get it while the lease belonged to the council. As part of the development they are wanting to also put in a 3g pitch that would have a crash mat underneath so rugby could also be played there along with football 7 days a week for the community, but they can't use the football grant money to fund it due to it also having a benefit for rugby.
I would imagine if any football grants were to be used to develop BV then the football club would have to have a significant percentage of ownership.
Anyway MC will have studied every avenue available to Wakey, and will have outlined every pro/con. Whatever he decides will be best for Wakefield and I doubt you'll lose out.

I suppose if they are all part Wakefield Trinity Sports Ltd, then there perhaps is your get in, ie the RL club is the owner of the football team. Who knows I'm just guessing.

Just to add another possible complication to accessing football grants, I believe the redevelopment of Belle Vue will lead to it being classed a community stadium. Therefore possible funding from sports England or lottery funding. I’m no expert, but all things are possible.

I’m sure that you could easily find out if a property was purchased or left to somebody in a will, rather than slander them on a public forum.

| From the the recent interviews it looks like the new East Stand plans should be available very soon. Heard work to start next year but surely that would have to be at the end of the season unless there’s a workaround for the old East Stand.

| Not sure Elstone has a grip on good negotiating tactics informing potential investors that you are looking for a quick outcome leaves it open to 'well that's what we are offering take it or leave it' perhaps he should have said we are looking for the best outcome for SL and the investor and will negotiate accordingly. His words appear a little desperate!
The RFU deal of £200m looks good but who knows, as for what value a potential investor would put on SL I'm guessing £200m is not it.
SL and the RFL do not get the media coverage that the RFU do and that's a big part of the value and these people are investing to make money it will not be goodwill, vanity or I love SL it's profit that they are after

The RFU has just staged a brilliant WC, we have just concluded a squalid tour of NZ. Where are there any similarities between the two games, it’s all fantasy. I may be wrong but I fail to see a single part of RL that would be attractive to an investor who’s primary role is making money, I just don’t.
One thing I’m even more certain of is if that did happen the first casualties would be clubs like us.
The only way it makes sense is if they cherry pick the top SL clubs and create a hybrid game with the top Union clubs. It makes total sense then business wise but not for clubs like us not even if we get the finest new stand ever built.
If it happens it will be an utterly one sided deal that will eventually see the end of RL imho.

I don't agree with your hybrid game part but I agree with the rest.
I honestly can't see an investor identifying profit potential without expansion.
We need to prepare for this so that we are seen as a big city sleeping giant, not a low income village team based in a city. How? That's the tough question. Ground would be a start.

I should have added, if it’s the same investors, which is what’s been suggested, then I suspect you see where I’m coming from regarding a hybrid game. Overnight you have a truly national game that could start to rival football. I’m guessing that’s how these people think.

I don't think they'd bother.

Why alienate all the RU fans? The hybrid wouldn't be accepted by them either.

| I would agree I dont really see an angle for the investors if its solely just RL based, other than we are a low budget sport with potential to grow. That aside if the club did get a windfall then it presents an opportunity to fund redevelopment, and I would hope this is where it would go rather than mercenary marquee players.

Although they (investors) may not be prevalent in RL, for most investors, a chance to buy when something is cheap and not maximising it's potential should be the ideal time to invest.
Buy cheap, invest and then sell at a profit.
For me, RL is still one of the best sports on the planet and "our" inability to sell this to the masses has been a mystery.
Are those at the top frightened of genuine competition and happy to be "big fish" in a small pond or, is there really no appetite for the sport outside of the established pockets of interest.

That's pretty much what I meant, basically RU with perhaps a few minor tweaks to speed it up a little, the term 'hybrid' was perhaps a little generous.

| Going back to our new stadium and i know it as been mentioned before and i think one of the football teams did it, The name on a brick for
£100 if and that's a big IF, If we could get the hardcore fans 4k to invest £100 for their name onto a brick that's £400.000 towards the help of the new ground surely that's needs looking at doing.
