i do hope it signals a short term plan, and that newmarket isn’t on the rocks.'"
Nothing could be further from the truth, Newmarket continues to move forward and everyone grows more confident each day. Things, by the nature of the process, appear quiet on Newmarket but that is because the majority of work is technical and of course the hearings are not scheduled to be till December.
Some very good news appeared last week that some of you may have missed. The stadium travel plan was published and to cut a long story short, Yorkcourt looked to have reached agreement with the Highways Agency, WMDC Highways and Metro/Aviva over the travel plan for the stadium. This effectivley removes any objections (well, they were not objecting as such, they just wanted more information and input) they have and that just leave Natural England and Leeds City Council. Some more information can be found here -

| Quote ="fat faced fan"ouch - that's a lot of brass! however if it secures our place, and if there is some residual value in it then it's good sense. my point however is that it's money that could be better invested in wakefield and the game as a whole were it not for the whole franchising debarcle.'"
It's actually a lot less than the kind of figures that were being thrown about in relation to the redevelopment of BV a few years ago.
500K is a good investment, though, if it gets you 4.5m in SKY money over the next 3 years. Plus, improving the facilities will doubtless result in some increase in crowds, especially on bad weather days.

Bingo - AG is a business man; he's prepared to invest ÂŁ500k for the returns that 3 years in SL will bring - it strikes me as a very sensible decision, given that he won't actually have to do it if we don't get a licence.

That is the last one of the list... after inviting some of the Leeds councillors on a night out and ending up in a lap-dancing club bar with cameras at the ready!

| reading these forums suggest to me that no matter this club does some half wits will always find a need to moan.
this is miles better than what was happening and more realistic than pipe dreams.

| deep down mr glover has got to be hoping that the rfl say "actually mate - you've made your intentions clear, here's your three year licence, now don't chuck ÂŁ500k at belle vue, save your brass and spend it on wakefield trinity's future, be that by adding it to the newmarket pot, or on player development/community work etc."
it's a lot of brass to throw at something for a year and right out of the game.

Maybe you're right but it shows his level of commitment to the club and to the RFL, and that, if they believe him, may be the tipping point in our favour.

With the timescales that are set and the way these things tend to run its highly likely we'll be at BV for the next two years.

| Something else that I don't think has been mentioned so far, and that may also apply, is the dual use issue. If, as we've been told, Guiseley AFC train at BV, and the club is looking for a ground that meets Conference standards, then upgrading BV could kill 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak. This is pure speculation, btw.

Two pitches for use by amateur sports clubs. One with a stand.

Didnt they say at the 2nd meeting that they now had funds for the whole of the west side? So maybe not that cheaper

I think that changed - with now one outdoor pitch and one indoor one - subject to the level of funding available. If not enough funds, then probably 2 pitches as you suggest.

We should fund raise to fund any shortfall.
When this all goes through the level of interest from the city will be out of this world. I'm sure a strong supporters group could get sponsorship from local businesses. Even if it were to the tune of ÂŁ1,000,000. When NM breaks the soil and the world recognises this a thing of fact, not of fiction, we will be flooded with support.
For years as a district we've struggled with our training facilities, NM offers the chance to have an onsite training facility most championship football teams would be proud to own. We need to seize this opportunity for every single positive possible.
The educational facilities on offer really excite me too, but that's a bit of a "bus mans holiday" scenario.
Once we have NM underway I honestly think the next thing we should be thinking about (as a city) is establishing a university.

Great minds.
IMO not out of the realms of possibilities.
Would take a forward thinking council though. That's the thing I doubt the most. A uni would really put us on the map and give us a chance to develop the talent we as a city produce, instead of shipping it out (namely to Leeds and Manchester).
If you look in most industries you'll find us Wakefield'ites in and around the top of the tree, we get about you know!!
Cue NGBFC "ehhh students"....

| Not to mention the boost it would give to the local economy, a couple of thousand students living and shopping ect in Wakefield for 8 months a year.
