| I to am baffled by the reactions on here but not surprised, some of the most long winded and regular posters on here live in a reality vacuum.
First of all I can't for the life of me understand those who "claim" they were glad to see Grix go - liars all of them. Grix was popular in his first stint with us and although not the start of the team he was of value which is more than can be said for some who stayed.
Second he's versatile and has already been stated honest and hard working, the basis of any good RL player.
How does anybody on here know that 2 years is a bad deal. Maybe he said he'd play one season for 40k but two for 60k - it's a gamble but if he does have two years left in him it's a good deal. But then the experts on here would know that wouldn't they
Lastly when you consider the two players he's most likely replacing Owen/Tansey then he looks an astonishingly good buy.

| OK Vasty so if you are in charge of recruitment you will ignore a players age, his recent injuries, his loss of pace, his poor tackle technique, the fact that you have three players already in the squad who are better in new players position, that better younger players are available at less money. You would also sign a player who no other SL club wants and give him a full time salary and a player who has a terrible hair cut. Not forgetting that he couldn`t get away from the place quick enough last time we rescued his career.

I can't speak for Vasty but here's my take on it:
Quote you will ignore a players age, his recent injuries, his loss of pace, his poor tackle technique'"
I would rely on our coaching team to assess all of those things as they have a much better ability and understanding to do so than I do (or any other fan in my opinion)
Quote the fact that you have three players already in the squad who are better in new players position'"
Maybe better players in individual positions but as we're looking to reduce quantity then I'd say whilst not better in any one position he can probably cover ALL of those positions better than the other individuals
Quote that better younger players are available at less money'"
How do we know that? Do you know what Grix is getting paid, what the others would demand, whether they would choose to come to us, or be allowed to join us, whether they would command a fee???
If signing a player who can cover a number of positions to a "reasonable" standard in case of injuries allows us to run with a smaller squad but with better quality players then I'm all for it. I guess we won't know until we see who else is signed. If the other signings are average then you might have a point but if we sign a couple of decent standard players with the money we've save then why is it a bad deal??
I'm guessing that with Anderson leaving you need someone else to vent about but I'd have liked to see you at least let him don the shirt and try before condemning him. Maybe that's just too much to ask!

I would never be in charge of recruitment as I don't know enough and neither do you - utterly stupid question.
Next bit irelevent, unless it's a permanant injury so what - his tackling technique and his so called loss of pace is just opinion, yours as it happens which in past experience is rarely right. Clearly JK annd CC see it different, so where do you get off thinking you know better than them and not just you but a few others on here? I mean there is opinion then there is arrogance. I have my opinions but at least I know when I'm outgunned - seriously mate take a look at what you post.
Next who are these young players and AGAIN how do you know what money they want - do you know everyone in RL?
Next, how do you know that no other SL club wants him - stop making it up or better still become a Politician.
Next and gain how do you know he couldn't get away quick enough - more made up bull that can't be proved or unproved which you seem to be relenlessly doing at the moment - why I don't know as your much smarter and honest in real life.
I don't know whether Grix will be another Paul Sykes which is good or an Ian Kirke which is bad. What I do know is that if I owned the club I'd take CC and JK opinions over those of yourself and all the other"experts" on here. What I do know is I've seen nothing from Grix to suggest he isn't worth a go at reasonable money. I don't know what that is but I'm sure you think you do
Note: Through the years your doom mongering opinions on players we sign and those already at the club have been wrong on a staggering level - I'd do you a list but I'll spare you the pain.
However one from last year sticks in my mind. Chris Anakin AKA your love child has failed for various reasons to make the grade over four seasons and four coaches. It's sad because I hoped you were right but your not, he probably won't make it because he isn't big enough or good enough which is a shame. However that's not the point. The point is that whilst having one of your rants last year on Anakins behalf you stated that Ashurst amongst other players were not fit to lace Anakins boots REMEMBER THAT, I DO. Even then that sounded stupid but looking at Ashurst this year compared to Anakin is like comapring a Bently to a Lada. Ashurst has been superb all season and is so far ahead it's almost measured in light years - we will be lucky to keep him. This is not a dig at Anakin who has his place but shows how poor a judge of a player you really are.

He certainly was and I'm one of the only Giants fans worried about his loss until we announce a FB signing.
He was our best fullback in my opinion.
Puts his heart into it and a great organiser of defences.
Good signing for you.

| If we were not allowed to have an opinion based on what if then the forums would be pretty dull.
The clue is in the term Injury Prone, it happens to many players when they get into their 30`s, others younger. You are happy to add Grix to Germond, Moore, Toupou and Gibson ( who I think is a very good player ), possibly a sixth of the squad who will be fit for less than half the games.
Think you might be correct he looks like he has got faster over the last two seasons.
Two excellent young lads just signed from London under 19`s for SL clubs. Not sure if you get the opportunity to watch under 19`s and under 23`s but their are some cracking players around Vasty. Only know a few people in RL never said I new everyone.
The players agents I know hint at the cost of players, parents of players advise of offers received.
Yes you are correct Wigan , Leeds, Saints, Warrington, Catalans, Hull, Cas, Salford, Widnes and KR were gutted when they lost out on signing him.
Ex directors of the club at the time told me and who the hell told you I was honest.
Have been correct 19 / 20 on player assessment, have never slated Ashurst. Anakin is a God who has been over bulked by old fashioned fitness coach, they need to get a stone of muscle of him and get him playing longer minutes.

| This thread is a reasonable discussion as far as I am concerned and I would like to make a couple of further points.
First of all, isn't it nice to hear from shudds fans telling us how good grix is and he will be an excellent signing for US !!!
but not good enough to play for THEM!!!! very codecending as usuall , so nothing changes there.
Secondly the reason there is so much discussion is that its not directly about Grix but what he represents. To me once more it shows a lack of ambition and imagination.
People are saying a lot of good things about Grix and no doubt he has earned those respecfull comments for what he has done over the years, However JD earned similar and even better comments but he went on at least one season too long and that is my main worry with Grix. After all I clearly remember that dross called Reilley who came to us from shudds with identical praise from their fans.

It's strange. I know many of us myself included post on here in a more strident and emotional way than we do face to face. However the posting Belly as opposed to the real one are so far apart it's hard to reconcile them - has his account been hacked! I know all about alter ego's and wind ups but this one is getting really extreme and oddly personal in a targeted way.
Oh well....

| Grim has played in the second row too, I think. I think he's a good signing because you can never fault him for effort and commitment.
It always felt to me, even right back to his Widnes days, that he played at full back because there was nowhere else to play him. He was suspect for a long time under the high ball but you could tell from his technique that he worked hard on that aspect. I've always said that he is one of those players who is a fine player but there was always someone better than him in whatever position he chose. He is a great utility player and I can see him going well in the second row.

Freudian slip there mate?
Don't ever remember him playing in the second row to be honest, loose forward i think but nowhere else in the pack. Could be wrong though. Has played anywhere 1-7 though, although these days he has slowed down a bit so might not be as effective. Time will tell how it will go but still would have gone with one year and an option for the second.

He's good enough for us that's for sure. We don't currently have a better fullback.
Don't forget who starts the next season as a top 8 side.
I believe you've signed a top 8 side fullback. If he hadn't of been injured and had played more games I believe we would of avoided the bottom 4. He was that important to us. Only a handful of giants fans would agree though.
That is just my opinion though.

| Through all the moaning about Grix, if you look a bit deeper into the possible reason a 32 year old has been given a 2 year deal.
It maybe because he has and is in top shape condition wise.
I'll leave the rest open to interpretation.

I've not said he's not good enough for us- I wish he was staying!
As for Reilly- cut him in half he had Huddersfield running through his middle. Claret and gold runs through his veins. He was gutted to be leaving his hometown club and suffered from depression as a result- not dealt with well by either your club or ours at the time.
Paul Reilly was and is a legend at Huddersfield. He didn't have the passion for your club he did for ours. Sometimes it's just like that. Calling Reilly dross is absolutely unimaginable to us!

'" On a more serious note I really wonder if Kear has the final say.
If Kear signs players who chester is doesn't rate then its a recipe for disaster and friction within the club. After all, get the signings wrong and its Chesters head on the block.
I would be interested to know how it all pans out.
