Who are these SL players - Im not doubting that Finn is borderline SL quality it's the alternatives I' struggling with.

My doubts about Liam Finn is apart from his goal kicking, is that he doesn't appear to have been crucifying teams when playing for Fev, he never seems a stand out to me.

I think I said all that myself, so yes I'm fully aware of his limitations.

However next year is not about flowing RL it's about grinding results out - not just for us but most teams.

For that you need a strong pack (which we have) and experience in the halves.

Moving a pack around doesn't require speed but does require an adequate passing game and the ability to to produce opportunities from kicks in what may be a lot of tight games.

If after half a season we are looking good then maybe we could look around for a bit more star quality.

As match winners neither Sykes or Finn make the grade but as a good link they are ok.

Finally "but IMO he's slow, has an average passing game and a reasonable kicking game…" could if you were being harsh describe Tim Smith. His passing was occasionally well above average but just as often it was diabolical, he was cart horse slow and his kicking game was adequate.

I like the last bit - but Tim Smith had an exceptional pass - when he wanted it - and that is where his problems start and end for me. Finn would have something to prove, but we'd be mullered with him and Sykes at HB as there would be no pace at all.

I watched Finn closely in the RLWC and saw nothing at all from him. I know we're not in a position to be picky, but I honestly think we can do better and I would back our club and their connections to come up trumps - they have so far with the signings we have made!

Fully agree with this. We need some younger quicker legs alongside Sykes and Finn is not that man. Add to that he really isn't that good anyway, hence why Fev have signed Gareth Moore, then I would be disappointed if we went down that route.

Phil I get your point I really do. However we have limited resources and the game has not changed that much - packs win games.

Finn has his limitations, but he's a known quailty, he offers a decent kicking game and plenty of experience. Can't be costing a fortune, so on paper worth having around, ie. another option. Hopefully he'll be just that an option and we'll be signing of another half back as well. Maybe the oppertunity to take a risk on someone else? Could Wildie be cover for hooker or Scrum half? Sykes and Finn as the main option can't be the only option.

Still no news regarding Kay other than he's rejected a contract offer. Some have suggested he's signed for Leigh yet they have not announced it. What ever he, or his agent, was wanting theres a decent chance it will be comparable or even less than what the alternatives are likely to want, particularly if they're coming over from Australia

On finn I would see no harm in him signing as backup for pivot positions. I don't have him down as key player material but would be more than happy if he proves me wrong.
