| I thought Pearman had got his hands on some loans that were secured against land.
Didn't he end up fleeing to the Netherlands?
Ted had the land where Sainsbury's at Trinity Walk is now (hence the sponsorship) I think but his "watertight" contract wasn't so watertight and he was screwed.
The memory is hazy but I think that's how it went down.

Wasn't that the back of the old outdoor market near the office block or was it more where the stack of old buildings and garages / yards etc?

The area off Jacobswell lane where the old printing building was and the pub on the corner Jacobswell Tavern.
Pearman purported to own some land off Newmarket Lane where Amazon is now.

| Very encouraging article from ME. Willing to spend £1.5million pounds; £1million on players and £500.000 on "0ther things". Says he's not going to refer to finishing second from bottom as "Success", and definitely aiming for top six and 6.500 crowds. I like what I hear.

I hope so.
For a new coach debut season to have lost a number of stars (TJ, Fifita, Orona, Miller, Tupou) and be last to the party for recruitment he almost got the job done but for some close losses or a slip up vs Cas.
Looking at the longer picture. He probably learnt a lot about himself and being a coach. Learning under Powell for a few years would place him more ready and likely in a better position to sssist as an assistant.
I do think some continuity is needed and Mash has knowledge of players and the club from scholarship to first team. I’d be fine with it.

| We need those pathways reestablishing from getting kids interested in schools right through to getting scholarships and beyond . Remember a few years ago now a youthful James Bachelor used to come into our school and get the kids engaged with rugby in an after school club which was well attended through Trinity. Then Francis Malony and Wayne Godwin used to come in as part of a private enterprise by I think Ryan Hudson . If we are serious about developing and retaining our talented youth , we could do far worse than give mash this role and get those pathways and links back up and running in the area alongside coaching our reserves and the likes

What purpose does keeping him serve?
Darryl Powell will be well aware of Applegarths duplicity and his role in removing Willie Poching. Any Coach in any sport doesn’t want an assistant who will act behind his back to undermine you.
Even if he does stay as assistant, what are we going to do, offer him the Head Coaches job in a couple of years because after his shocking performances and poor delivery of the last season I for one wouldn’t want to see him as Head Coach again
You speak of continuity, well what is it that you saw this last season that you want a continuance of?

I was no fan of M A in his role as coach but when he was bringing the young lads through he was very well thought of and did an excellent job.
Obviously he was then offered the job as head coach and took it-if you were ambitious wouldn’t you have done the same?
He wasn’t up to it and should have been relieved after 10 games.
But to rubbish him by suggesting he comes back as a cleaner is juvenile and offensive.
He’s WT through and through - ok he got it very wrong but don’t kick the guy now he’s down- or is that what you do?

I am not kicking him now he is down, I have always thought that it was a bad appointment and had more to do with the needs of others. He at any other club would have been replaced when it became obvious he is out of his depth as an head coach especially with a squad he was presented with.
I actually thought I was being generous with my job suggestion, because I would be surprised if he will be retained in any capacity.

You say Powell will know but he and Ellis are the ones talking about it. It isn't a fans opinion.

These are questions for Ellis and Powell who are having discussions and considering if he has a place.
The part about Poching is all suspect/rumour that you are treating as fact. That’s not fair at all in my eyes. The board made the choice to appoint someone other than Poching and MA was offered the job. He accepted it and why wouldn’t he.
I mean continuity in the sense that there will be a lot of personnel I would imagine leaving the club and so goes with it knowledge and experience of a few levels of working within a rugby club. Applegarth may bridge some of this and I believe that despite not achieving the end result he will have gained a lot of experience and learnt alot this season. Taking a step back and learning under an experienced coach like Powell (not ab inexperienced one like Poching) may be of great benefit should the people who matter decide it.

You can accuse Applegarth with a few things but 'paid little attention to our own youth' is not one of them. This year alone Harry Bowes played 14 games, Jack Croft played 9 after coming home and recovering from injuries, Sam Eseh played 15 games, Lee Kershaw played 17 games and Lewis Murphy was our starting winger before his ACL. As well as giving game time to Butterworth, Law, Pratt, Schofield, Shaw Harvey Smith and Windrow. I'm not sure what more you're wanting?
If you're alluding to our specific youth system then I can also include Max with 15 games and Jordy with 9 before he left - I'll even throw in Jay Pitts, Liam Kay, Will Dagger, Corey Hall and Josh Griffin. If it's 'young players' in general then he also packed out the squad with Sam Hewitt, Tom Forber and Ugo Tison throughout the season too.
...This is already off the back of losing 2 genuine first teamer (...and now some of the best players in SL) in Tom Johnstone and James Batchelor, along with Yusuf Aydin too.
If you think the aforementioned players should be getting more game time then I'd love an explanation as to why with the only one I can see who should have played more was Lee Kershaw over Tom Lineham...and Lewis Murphy if he didn't suffer a season ending injury.
The stick to beat Mash with has been severely overused in recent times but to say he does not focus on youth, younger players or academy players is downright incorrect.

Cracking post..
I hope our new coach and MA sort something out.
However I think Powell will probably want a clean slate .

I would expect him to say nothing less because it’s a stalling statement until he takes full control. The final decision will be made by Powell who almost certainly will go with his own assistants who know his methods.

From JM
Update ahead of tonight's Shareholders meeting
Good morning, I wanted to give you a prior update ahead of tonight’s shareholders meeting.
After some discussion with Matt Ellis, we have decided that since the acquisition isn’t formerly completed yet Matt, in particular feels it would be better if he didn’t attend this evening, Matt would like to meet you all soon with his management team.
I still very much want to go ahead and meet you all this evening and I’m looking forward to discussing important matters such as the stadium redevelopment works, our recent submission for Grading purposes & exactly where we are regarding the acquisition of the club.
Matt wanted to send you all a personal message as below:
“Dear valued shareholders I am writing this email regarding the shareholders meeting tonight, I can assure you I am looking forward to meeting with you all however I won’t be attending tonight’s meeting. When John asked me to attend a few weeks ago I felt the deal would have been concluded. I can assure everyone that the deal is at the very final stages now and both myself and John/Michael’s solicitors are aiming to get this over the line in the coming days. I feel that until the deal is finally signed, I will be hampered somewhat in answering certain questions as I finalise new signings and season ticket plans. I have been working hard behind the scenes and as you all will be aware I have agreed a deal with a new Head Coach. I can also confirm I have a new Recruitment / Salary Cap Manager ready to start working for the club once the takeover is complete. I also have a number of staff ready to take their place to run the off the field non rugby business. I will call a further shareholder meeting within days of the takeover being completed. I will bring along Daryl and these new members of our management team so we can all be introduced and answer any questions you may have. I am very excited to get the takeover completed and meet you all hopefully in the coming days and talk about ambitions for the future on and off the field.”
I very much look forward to seeing you all this evening.
Regards
John

| Makes perfect sense to me. Matt Ellis is the future and that is what I wish to hear about. John Minards is the past(hopefully) he has had his stint, time to move on.
