| Not that bothered about either but if I had to choose it would be the Stones.
Some of the McCartney written Beatles stuff was tripe.

| Always preferred The Who in front of Beatles/Stones but the only groups I really stuck with from their inception and purchased all their stuff was The Kinks and Hawkwind.

| Quote ="vastman"That's true to a point, though I struggle to see the similarity between Delta blues and Gimmie Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil, Ruby Tuesday or dare I say the best Disco record ever made, Miss you. The Stones are far more diverse than they are ever given credit for, partly their fault for not dying or packing it in or worse still playing to a caricature of themselves to become incredibly rich.
The same applies to the Beatles who were basically a souped-up Everly Brothers. They were in my opinion no more creative than many other sixties bands, Stones included, they just happened to enter the public imagination first.
Where I do agree is McCartney. Without a doubt no pop musician has had a better ear for melody than him, it's this IMHO that made them so popular with all generations, not just the kids. Lennon huffed and puffed but frankly I don't get him.
When I was 17 I obviously liked bands of my own era but the Beatles were my favourite band, barely listened to the Stones. My college lecturer told me that if I stuck with them I'd change as I got older and I did. The Beatles have the tunes but the Stones have grove and Rock n Roll has always been about the groove imho. He also said that the Stones was music for adults only,I think I now know what he meant.
'"
Yeah, I'll give you Gimme Shelter. If you haven't seen it, you might like reading this from a couple of days ago (it's not having a go at The Stones, despite the title of the article): [urlhttps://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/apr/08/gimme-shelter-left-a-dark-taste-in-my-mouth-merry-clayton[/url
I'm a big fan of The Stones. It's just that the more Delta blues I listen to, the more I hear them. I had the same feeling with The Specials, one of my favourite bands because they were my first real musical awakening when I was 14 in 1979, and then the more I listened to old Trojan stuff, I realised how much of it were either cover versions or rip-offs. Still love the music the same though, and I'm the same with The Stones.

| I can fall out with myself over my own opinions, I hate the Beatles music, never got it, but they definitely did change the face/course of music. The Stones, I was always a bit meh with them then saw them at Glastonbury (2012 ish) first hour I was like “yeah I’m right, shi8e” then the second half they did a best of set and it was majestic.
Ps. Plus I like Wings.

| Personally thought the coolest were the mighty Led Zeppelin who had they own plane and Rob Plant changed the look of the rock stars with is long blonde wavy hair and tight jeans if you are into that BUT most importantly they were the best in my opinion.

| Although lyrically The Beatles were better, personally, I do prefer The Stones.
Having said that my favourite of the 60's bands was The Kinks, and also big fan of The Hollies and Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac with the late great Peter Green the first of the real Supergroups.

| 1/ Stones by a country mile. Cannot be beaten.
2/ The Who
3/ The Animals
4/ The Four Seasons
5/ The Kinks
6/ The Beach Boys
Fortunate enough to have seen all these bands live. Saw the Stones on Saturday, 9th October, 1965 at Leeds Odeon. The same day as the tragic murder of schoolgirl Elsie Frost.
The Beatles appeared at The Regal Cinema on February 7th 1963, but I wasn't sufficiently interested to go see them. Saw the Four Seasons at Regal Cinema in May 1963; their first ever appearance in England and The Beach Boys at Leeds Odeon in November, 1966. Their live performance of Good Vibrations was just perfect.
Anybody got the blue prints for building a time machine???

I challenge you to a scrap behind the bike sheds at playtime, Ketty. Your opening statement was totally unacceptable!
Vasty was worried about folk being a bit fractious as well.
By the way. The Roundhay Park concert was never intended to be their last concert. Saw them in 2018 at Old Trafford. Better than ever.

Never my favourite band to be fair redcat but it was billed as their farewell tour I’m sure ,so i thought well why not . To be fair to the stones the wind did them no favours, at times it was like listen to the wheel tappers and shunters as it was playing havoc with the PA .
On the other hand on a balmy summers night I had the privilege to see the greatest Rock band of all times bar non, with around another 250,000 fans .

Saw the Stones at Roundhay and the 'sound' sure did spoil the event, we were quite a way from the stage and it was funny (although not at the time) to watch MJ on the big screen and his sound coming across about two songs later
Also went to Knebworth, can't remember which week, to see Led Zep, great event, but fell asleep when Chas and Dave were on
Another of my fave groups around that time was the Faces, saw them a few times including at the Top Rank in Doncaster, also saw David Bowie there.

Vasty asked... Whose the coolest of the big two British sixties bands? The Beatles or the Rolling Stones. Not necessarily the highest earners.

Cheers, I was just wondering why other bands kept being mentioned. I'll go with The Beatles.
