he played around 6 times in NRL last season so one of the best in the NRL is maybe a slight exaggeration of being best in the NRL.

No he wasn't the best or close, I think he got injured last season though.

Whether is injured or playing in the wrong position I dont know, but I have seen very little from him to be the captain or or even be in the team. Then again there is quite a few more like him!!!

Southern has always been a solid grafter in the NRL. Almost like a prop at 2nd row. He does the dirty grafting work that is appreciated amongst his team mates. Needs more game time unless he is injured.

He had a great start in his proper position - he isn't a prop though and shouldn't be playing there; he's getting bashed up every week and will end up crocked. As I said on another thread - Matt James was watching the game from the flats - why not draft him in until Amor is fit (next week) and put Southern back where he belongs?

Agree, Amor says he should be back next week, so he'll be back where he belongs.

Get amor, James, Wilkes and Raleigh in the 17 and we have something that resembles a proper front row.

I completely agree with the above posts.

Southern is a 15 stone second row playing predominantly against 17 stone plus props and appears to be ineffective.

: He needs to be where he is most effective and at his specialist second row position which he played in NRL, then partner Kirmond. He is the captain and needs to be on the field for 90% of the game.

Amor is back next week and to freshen up the front row he should be partnered with James (give the lad a chance or get rid surely). Wilkes, Raleigh and Lauititi on the bench with Ellis if Aiton is injured.

Start with Wood at 9 for recognition of his form and put Johnson at loose forward for some additional go forward and size in the pack, he played there last season for a game if I remember rightly and didn't look out of place (drop Washbrook).

Is the rumour about Fielden coming on loan true?

He would add some experience to the pack.

you wrong there. Southern is one hell of a tackler with great go forward. We are beeter when he is on the pitch than off it and he is playing out of position. Have watched Frankie in Under 20s and he has struggled with one injury after another this year. Also how would he do at prop ?

I think with Mariano we need to rest him and not keep rushing him in the U20's with injuries otherwise he'll be out for longer

To play Southern at prop means your are losing a top tackler and gaining an inferior prop forward. In fact to play him at prop is stretching the definition of a prop beyond the limit. Trout is a better prop than Southern, surely he would have been a better option.

Appreciate that -just agreeing with your comments about Southern-he was a shadow of the player we saw when he was in the second row.

Southern is far more of a prop than Trout. He is doing a honest job there while we have actual props. Players like Southern are worth their weight in gold to their team mates.

That isn't in doubt, but he isn't a prop. Put him in the second row and we've got a good player, at prop he is wasted.

But due to our lack of other prop options Southern is our only option. Until Amor and possibly James come into the frame then we dont have much to play with.

James could have been playing rather than being shipped out on loan. And remember Southern started at prop at widnes when Amor was fit. Square pegs and round holes and all that.
