| Quote ="upthecats"I find it interesting that our own fans think we’ve a chance of beating Wigan, Salford or Hull KR if they rest players...it’s giving an excuse to teams we don’t support, yet when we are missing so many of our best players we are still expected to be winning?
Go on the virtual terrace and ask any opposition fan how they perceive us...do they see us as a play off contender, a mid table side or a team who’ll be scrapping it out near the bottom. I’d be absolutely astounded if at least 75% don’t say the latter.
If we are at full strength week in week out with few injuries and disruptions we might just prove the majority wrong and flirt with the play offs like we have done recently...when we are continually missing half of our best players we are finding our natural position in the table...the place where the vast majority of fans outside of Trinity fans would see us.
Look at our squad and how many match winners we have, I mean top players who can come up with that moment of brilliance, have an individual outstanding game that can turn us from a losing team to a winning one...
Fifita and Johnstone are two definites without question...outside of those two who is there?
Tupou is a tremendous player when on form but I can’t think of many times where his individual performance has single handedly win us a game?
At a push another could be Miller when at his absolute best...
Three of those haven’t been in lately...one seems to have had a crisis in confidence, one seems to have acted a bit like a baby and the other has been desperately unlucky with injuries...
Without our potential match winners though and the constant tinkering with the spine we look a very ordinary side.
How much of that is Chesters fault? He’s proved in the past when things are going well we are capable of playing some good stuff and upsetting the odds...
We need big Dave to come back with the right attitude because he can make a huge difference...if he’s playing at his best he lifts the whole pack to another level and if we manage to get a bit of confidence back (which is huge in sport) I’m sure we’ll play much better and pick off a few wins..'"
Other teams don't have to make excuses though do they? even through injury crises other teams manage to perform. A well coached team usually keeps the same structure no matter what team they field as the coach has them trained that way as a full squad and everyone knows exactly what is expected of them and they train for those situations where they have to be versatile.
Look at Cas last season, they spent the majority of the season with half a team out, arguably a worse injury crisis than ours yet they still managed to get 5th place, they won 4 or 5 games with a hooker and second rower playing in the halves, I saw them win a game with a second row at 6 and a prop at 7 and we were there scraping Superleague survival pleading injuries all season long.

| Yeah Cas ended up winning 4 more games than us! A team who not that long ago finished top by 10 points! Then when injuries hit they win 4 more than us in what many fans on here see as our worst season in the club’s history...

| For me it’s not about bodies back ,who’s playing where ,how much a player costs all equating to how we perform As a team ,its attitude ,and I’m afraid at times we’ve been woefully lacking in that department.

| Comparing the squad of 2017 and 2018, which were the best seasons under Chessie, against the squads of 2019 and 20, the squads are very different now, and most of these in the squad nowadays, are players that he has brought in. To me, that would indicate that overall recruitment over the past couple of years has been poor

Absolutely right IMO.
I coach a junior football team and I know my players are more than capable of winning against most opposition, but occasionally they show up with the wrong attitude and don't work hard for each other and suddenly we get a drubbing.
The following week the only instruction I will give them is to go out and give it 100% and more often than not, they're back on it and competitive.
I'm not saying that Chester should do the same, I understand there are other factors at play with a group of adults, just making the point about what a difference that attitude from the players makes.

In which case you can’t really accuse our chairman of lacking balls when he’s backed Chester.

Or maybe the fact is they're best of buddies.
We maybe safe this year from the drop, but it will be by pure default.
If something doesn't give, I'm afraid we will be playing championship rugby and budgets will be even less

| M C and CC have a marriage made in heaven
Mc says no money available and we are going back to the budget of 3 years ago
and CC sucks it up and spends whats available on positions not require.
While ever this situation continues things will remain the same. even Trinity fans have become prise conditioned.
Lets imagine that M C gave CC more money for better quality players and the results remained the same ,how long would CC last. You could argue that while ever the present situation continues the coaching ability of CC takes a back seat.,

You would make a good defence lawyer i'd give you that!! The problem is, all you and others on here always leap to his defence by saying who we are missing, it's never about who takes to the field and are they giving their all and is the coaching staff getting the best out of them?! My argument is not that in theory we should be better with the likes of TJ, Fifita, Miller etc playing, although I say should because I can give you 5 or 6 games out of the last 20-25 when we have been almost full strength and been terrible! London, the 2 cup ties against Widnes & Bradford, remember HKR first up this season? what did we lose 32-6 and we were only missing Fifita & BJB? Catalans 58-0, you need to see that 17 again because it was very strong supposedly?!
Your argument seems to be, if we are missing xyz players then that's it, we've got no chance, no point turning up because it's a given we will lose.........Leeds at home last year, 10 players missing and we beat them on Easter Monday, because the players that DID play showed some bottle and fight, and scrapped for the full 80. It can be done. We had a stronger team out at Hudds the other day, and having watched it on Trin tv, I doubt we would have beaten a Championship side the way we played, and it probably is a good job there is no relegation, 'cause if there was that's where we would be heading........

Don’t all teams lose games with a full team on the park? It’s not unique to us.
The London and Hull KR opening day defeats were both hugely disappointing, yes...on both occasions though we reacted quite well...after London we win 6 of our next 9 and after Hull KR this season we beat Warrington the following week. What I’d draw from that is over the last two seasons we’ve not been ‘ready’ for the first game of the season
For all the stick Chester gets on here as opposed to all the support Tony Smith and Danny Ward seem to get just look at the two fixtures last season where it really, really mattered...two huge pressure games...away at HKR at the back end we absolutely destroyed them on their own patch and relegated London on the final day...for all the praise Ward gets and people seeing him as our saviour, he was still relegated by a team coached by Chester and he was knocked out of the challenge cup by a championship side!
The Leeds game was a great win, remember it well with young Kershaw having a dream debut! I’ve always found though it’s much easier to come through games and circumstances like that when the team on a whole is playing well and full of confidence...after that game we were 4th in the table and Leeds 11th so kind of tells you where both teams were...
When the team are down on confidence and in a bit of a rut it can be hard to get out of and it might just need a match winning performance from a Fifita or a Johnstone to swing our fortunes...

| upthecats, how deluded are you if you think Fifita is going to come back with the 'right attitude'?
He's made his bed and the club should make him lay in it.
I'm sure Fifita has been cut quite a lot of slack in the past because of who he is and how he got people talking about Wakey when he signed.
If you think everything will carry on like before, I think that sends a bad message out to the rest of the team/squad and speaks volumes of the man management/discipline within the club.

| The problem is not the defeats but the manner of the losses. We have frequently changed the playing squad but the style of play is the same. This would indicate it is a Chester problem because it is him who dictates how the whole squad will play based on his game plan.
I feel sorry because this is not the time to play the youngsters because they are joining a frustrated team low on confidence and the pressure must be unbearable. It is ok to add them to a squad high on confidence and at ease as a team with each aware what is expected of them and an actual game plan based on who they are playing.

Hey, I’m all for second chances...
I made my stance clear on another thread...I would thank Dave for being an excellent signing and a real fans favourite and let him go with our best wishes...
We don’t know all the ins and outs though...
We know he’s probably been a handful to manage from day 1 and when he was playing well that probably wasn’t much of an issue...when not performing as well maybe it did become an issue and he threw his toys out of the pram? Still only speculation?
We don’t know what was said in the meeting or how he has been in training and with the rest of the squad since?
What we do know is if he’s in the right frame of mind he can be a hugely influential figure and bring the best out of those around him and lift the whole team...
Having played sport myself for 25 years in various sports and teams I’ve always come across players who are sometimes difficult to handle and in most cases they’ve been the better players in the team...as a player I always wanted them to be playing because I wanted to be playing in a team with all its best players playing...whatever has gone on I bet the majority of the squad would still want a switched on Dave playing every week...

| This is the first time I've ever thought this since Mr Carter took the club over, but I'm beginning to lose a little confidence in him lately.
He has shown in the past that he is an astute accountant and businessman who turned our club into a business that looked after it's financial matters sensibly. So why now is he willing to watch his investment disappear down the pan to some extent.
By the fact that so many season ticket holders surrendered them to the Club in order help out financially we effectively became shareholders/stakeholders in Wakefield Trinity. Now, I'm not a capitalist but I believe the first duty of such a business is to satisfy its shareholders and do what is best by them. Mr Carter doesn't appear to believe in this creed as he doesn't seem to want to stop the slide or at least explain to "shareholders" the state of the situation at this point in time.
Come on Mr C. give us some respect, please..

I'm looking at it from the point of, Fifita won't be here next season. BJB is coming to the end of his contract, I would say there's a big wedge tied up in those two, which could go a long way to getting that 'general' that we need.

I think we have gone past the point that a good half will turn the clubs fortunes around ,things seem to be a lot more deep seated than a new pair of boots on the park to me .I really hope that I get egg on my face this fri and we give Wigan a good thumping which in my heart I hope we do ,but my head says it’s another shellacking that’s in store for us .

Even if these two aren’t at the club next season I am not confident the money would be used as we are 280k lighter from the sky deal alone and could be massively down again based on today’s government announcements.
