| JD will not come here if he's turned Saints down - he'll be offered a head coach job in NRL soon enough, probably Broncos or Cowboys & as Boj says why would he accept a pay cut for all the hassle & risk tarnishing his reputation

He'd tarnish it more by going to Saints. The chance of repeating this years level of success are small, especially with Wigan recruiting so well, and even if he sustained it, he'd only ever be living in the house that Justin built. I just can't see what's in it for him.
Leeds, however, is a different prospect. A good enough set-up that there is a chance to restore glory days, and hence his personal glory, but if it goes belly-up, he wouldn't get the blame, as recent years would suggest there is a bigger problem.
Us? Probably somewhere in-between. He could refresh things behind the scenes, if they need it, and with stadium issues, etc, he could ride the wave at the right time.
For me though, Chester has earned one bad season, particularly as we are so crocked with injuries. I don't remember him being criticised when Johnstone was getting a hat-trick at Headingly and Toupou was treating Watkins's defence like a turnstile.

| Fair point re. Saints Slugger but do you think JD would suffer by being ex-Waky like McDermott did (altho he was ex-Bulls too)

| I don’t know JD but he obviously holds a special place in his heart for wakey
He could have had his pick of clubs but he stayed with us
Even when he should have retired because of his back he still played on from us
I don’t see him doing it now but i also don’t see why he wouldn’t come back to coach us at some point

I doubt it. I think McDermott suffered because he was relatively unsuccessful as a weekly-round coach. I haven't looked, but I can bet he finished outside of the top 4 more than he finished in it. He was just very good at mounting cup-run type season endings, often from a fifth spot that was in fact more advantageous than finishing fourth at that time (went into the crucial games after wins over easier teams rather than losses over better teams, so confidence higher).

| The problem with this JD thing is as follows. JD means nothing to MC, he's just a name and one that's associated not with the regime he replaced but the one before that.
There is absolutely no connection between JD and the current Trinity set up. I wish they were but there isn't. True he knows the area and even a few of the players and as such he'd be on my speed dial but I see no obvious reason why MC and Co would feel the same. Its a cosy idea but in essence, its a fairy story, real life isn't like that, things don't dovetail that neatly.

I'm not sure that's right. What will be on his radar, if he has it switched on, is that JD is an NRL assistant coach who has worked with the best, succeeded as head coach at the tier below, and is fast becoming the name people mention when a new Super League coach is mentioned. Knowing that JD understands the club makes him higher up the list. The last thing you should do is appoint someone because they were once a Wakey player.
I think he'll stick with CC for now, as he's earned one bad season.
The main sticking point would be JD even if it were up for grabs. It would do his head coach credentials no good at all. No NRL club is going to rush to appoint him on the basis that he was able to get Wakey to fifth spot a couple of years on the trot, which for us would be a good return. He'd do better earning his stripes in Aus.
If I were advising JD, it'd be the Leeds job I'd want (although I suspect that will go to Danny Ward).

That's true but it's a separate issue as it could apply to a number of coaches over there. What I'm saying is that there is no emotional link, there is with the fans but I doubt there is with the current BOD. I think its a perfect fit but I started watching in 2004 so I would.

| I suppose if he gets the Ssints job and tanks it may then be an opportunity for Trinity, rebuild a reputation as such in a position with less expectation. Right now he's undamaged goods and could probably have his pick with upcoming head coaches role in the NRL and certainly Super League.

| I don't think we'd pay him the money anyway, We'd be looking for somebody that's not outstanding that's looking to try coaching a SL team someone who's inexperienced just to keep the price down
