| We are the same as any other team for god sake - Every team talks about what a tight knit bunch of lads they have and about the harmony within the squad... They aren`t going to say any different are they? We have players with bad attitudes playing throughout the league, does not stop top clubs signing them. It`s Chesters job to manage the squad, if he thinks Brough will do a job for us then that`s fine by me and I think he will also. We are crying out for a half that can guide the team around the field and has a good long kicking game and we don`t have a quota spot available in 2019.

How the hell do you know that, you at the training sesisions?
I don't know either tbf, I'm just guessing but I do think we are a bit different in that respect FWIW.
Nobodies denying Broughs ability though at 35 it is heavily diluted but many of us are very aware of his off field issues. Even for a RL player they are eye opening.
However my biggest issue is this - if you think Brough will win us big games you're kidding yourself. Even in his pomp when skill wise he was the best player in SL he was always a monumental choker. Apart from one CCup game for Hull against Leeds Brough has choked in every big game he's ever played in. He's no Ray Price or Joey Johns if that's what you think.
Still if you and CC think he's the man then I'll cross my fingers that you are right because if you're not CC might be picking up his P45 and you and me will will probably need to find a new pastime.

| It's really funny how danny divides so much opinion
I remember when jk signed him a lot of people thought jk was mad, I can't remember what I thought of danny at the time but he went on to be perhaps the best half back we've had at the club in the SL era

| I'm with Wrencat, if Grix goes and we get Brough, Hampshire will be FB.
I wonder what the difference between the contracts is for Grix and Brough?

True but that was ten years ago and Kear had already worked with hI’m, much bigger risk now.

| Have to disagree with Hampshire at full back. Not big enough.
He is our future 7 and can only get better learning from Brough and Finn next year.
We have 2 excellent young full backs in Jowett and Hooley. Let them get on with it.
Hampshire will still get plenty of game time and I would be happy to see Brough play in spells to help us with his game management. However no tolerance of spitting out his dummy. It must be made clear the team comes first and he should be a mentor to the future incumbents not a god as we don't need those type of players.

| It's plain to see if Grix goes and Brough comes in, Hampshire to full back is what will likely happen. This has a threefold effect; it es off Hampshire as he will be playing out of his preferred position, it es off Jowitt as someone who doesn't even want to play full back takes his place and es off Brough because he's just generally an angry man.

Indeed, all because we can get someone who is older than Liam Finn to replace him.
Still, without Brough to guide them, how are our youngsters going to fathom how to steal the team minibus and crash it, how will they discover what it's like to drink alcohol like naughty school boys on the back of the team bus against the coaches wishes and how will they follow the example of nearly losing their house to pay off gambling debts.

Funnily enough, he's lost it to another one of our old players who made the move over to Hudds at a similar time to Brough, Dale Ferguson.

| It's amazing that some folk six months ago were on here chastising finn because he was past his best and only offered a useful kicking game.... Yet folk are also making a case for signing a guy who'll be 3 6 before the next game, because he offers a kicking game.....
The argument that brough would get a team over the line in a tight game at the end is probably true more often than not.... But would he be good enough at 36 to get a team INTO those positions to pinch games?
I'm sure it would be a more positive move to sign Hampshire on a long term deal, invest in the lad and show some commitment to developing him into a class half back. Wakefield have already given him game time to work towards that.
Signing brough for me would be a panic signing, which is completely unnecessary on Wakefields part. In a 1 up 1 down scenario, Wakefield have absolutely no chance of going down. Long term it'd be far more worth while to coach the younger pivots that they already have.
Brough is a risk to the squad, the coach, and the club as a whole. I personally don't see Wakefield as a club who need to take that risk.
If London, HKR or Salford were to sign him, I could see the value in that.... But not Wakefield.

Have you not thought that he's soon to be 36. How much older do you want to him be.

| Brough’s kicking game is and always has been far superior to that of Finn. It certainly is not desperation stakes if we sign him, but an assessment that he could take us up a level. I trust the coaches.

| This is one of the strangest signings I can remember. Normally it would be heralded in order to boost ticket sales. However it may be kept secret for a while in order not to depress sales
My guess is that it is true and if so it one hell of a gamble by the person who decided to sign him. But if it pays off it could be a master stroke and take us to the next level.
However its a big IF !

If true I don’t like it but what I don’t get is signing Reynolds and retaining Hampshire - as you say if true a very strange signing.

| It is a strange one if it still has any legs on it following the Reynolds signing, if the story had any legs at all.
That is, unless of course, we are also looking at the full back position. Like Hampshire, Reynolds can also play full back. Maybe Chessie seeing one of those as full back, with the other as back up to Miller and Brough.
Can't realistically see it myself though

Agree, once Reynolds was signed I honestly thought that was the end of the Brough rumor, but no it's still going. Like you say what have we signed Renoylds for, where is Hampshire going to play, if he plays FB, what are we going to do with Jowitt and Hooley, that's presuming Grix is going. That is going to take some serious man management to keep everyone even remotely happy and I honestly don't know how it would work. With Halfbacks & FB's not getting hurt that often, there's potential for players to hardly get a game in that lot. Obviously, CC knows more than me so I'll let him get on with it if it happens and hopefully the risk pays off.
