Been away from the forum for a while due to work but had to get in on this one!!!

Brilliant idea!

Fans band- great idea! Personally I'd take it a step further and have an official brass band who have a regular slot alongside the pre match/half time entertainment. This may be hard to set up at first but bands are always looking for venues to practice/perform. I do know that we have a wide range of talents as a fan base and vast array as a community- there's no way this is impossible.

Although I don't play I do have a soft spot and fully appreciate the role they play in our shared northern heritage. They were the glue that bound communities in our region- sound familiar?? They IMO play just a significant role in making up our shared heritage as RL.

We could really set ourselves apart in this respect- supporting another cornerstone of our heritage and identity. Maybe going forward a band stand in one of the corners of NM?? People say how little identity new ground have, well theres a way to set yourselves apart. If run and supported via the community development team correctly, as I'm sure it would be, could be a real way of making our ground unique.

The club have done so much to make "match day" better and have tried to "lift" the game day experience, now i reckon they've done a great job, now they are asking for fan support and as usual everybody wants to pull it it pieces.

Absolutely true; it's easy to be light-hearted about the grumpy old man responses to this idea, but I genuinely think that the prevalence of cliquey, change-resistant, hardcore moaners at Wakey does nothing to help welcome new or lapsed fans into the fold.

I'm with G.Price on this one, although I'd be tempted to take the traditional brass band and do something slightly different with it; for example, they could march Treme style and jazz the music up a bit. Imagine a band marching and dancing around the perimeter of the pitch, playing a jazzy version of 'Oh When the Saints (Trin)?' I'd also be tempted to have them play unexpectedly modern tunes, a bit like the ukelele orchestra playing Metallica and such - it's attention grabbing and great fun.

Plenty of schools in the area are nurturing some exceptionally talented young musicians - it's very doable.

Isn't there a Wakefield Youth Band? Also a WMDC brass band.

No idea - I've never seen any.

As I am labeled in the category of grumpy I couldnt care less about a band as long as its not blerting out near me I go to watch the game not listen to drums banging and people thinking they are musical genius'

Just let me know where it will be sited so I can totally avoid it.

I don't think its a case of being grumpy, its not everyones cup of tea.

Plenty of room around the ground for those who don't like it.

I do not mind, so I will stand with the band and chanters

Like the idea of them marching! And the idea of playing modern songs would be great too!

We've all known for years the Wakefield brand and match day experience needed "modernizing"- although while we had Ted we had a soft target for blaming the lack of change that failed to happen. Who are we going to blame now? If we all want change we all have to make it happen. Accept the changes and move with the times- we have a few decades of catching up to do!

Bottom line: We have to evolve- If the "grumpy old men" don't like it-tough! Hopefully they come for the real stuff (the RL) anyway!

A WT brass section, properly kitted out, would be a great addition to the match day experience- if not a crowd puller in it's own right!

Are we talking about a small brass group like the one that follows the England football team. If we had had them playing the Great Escape in the 2nd half of the Cas game what an atmosphere that would of been.

The club have bought 4 Drums and have appealed for some brass

I play trombone and teach music in school. I come into contact with loads of kids who play brass. If someone from the club wants to pm me I am more than happy to try and put an England football brass style group together. I'm sure I could get an arrangement of the Great Escape done. Now I think about it I know of a lot of very good Trinity supporting brass players.
