Well said that man; relentless negativity about other peoples relentless negativity is still relentless negativity and thus, not particularly helpful.

I'm not turning this thread into anything of the sort. It's often said that players can choose who they play for, fans don't choose who they support. JD has played for this club like a fan would play for the club. He's been loyal in the most difficult of situations and never turned his back on us. I can't think of a greater compliment I could pay him.
If you feel offended by the comparison, then either I've expressed myself poorly, or you've missed the point. Either way, I stand by my admiration for what he's done for us.

I am certainly not offended, it was more a merger (if I dare use that word of this forum) of expression and misreading the point.

| Absolutely gutted reading this news. I know his age is catching up with him, and I know it's the right decision by the club. But it'll be hard to see him play in a different shirt next season.
Still, he's given us all some great memories, and in the short time I've been watching Wakey he's become my favourite player, just for his sheer guts and pride every time he plays. He deserves every success next year, and I really hope we can send him out on a high - a good run in the playoffs would do nicely. I'm sure he'll continue to put his all into our remaining matches this season, I get the impression he doesn't know any other way.
As for next year's captain, my vote would be for Sam - made of the same mould as JD, and would possibly be able to spend more time on the pitch (though Tesco ain't doing too bad this season!).

| Gutted, hoped he would move into the back room once he had finished playing. Best of luck JD and hope to see you back 1 day in the future maybe as assistant to king Willy when he replaces JK.
Good luck.

| Would you guys have given JD another year for sentiment ???? I am beggining to think we should you know one more year as more of a squad player. But christ he is still a far better centre than Gleeson and more of a player than Henderson.

| i agree, while jd had a bad start he has shown his worth in recent weeks, although alot on here say he is too old and finshed. He is in the top 22 plyers in the league for metres made, top 16 for tackle busts, and his overall work rate is very high, although he needs to cut his errors down. Jd is smashing our centres and backrowers in the stats and he is off qouta so i hope we can find someone who can take the work load and offer as much as he does for the club in general. I still believe if he was used a an impact player off the bench he would add alot to the team still and keep him fresher. but its a business and i hope jk gets his replacement right, because morrison has not got a full season in him and when he is out, there will be no jd to carry the load which will present a problem. You can't run a professional sports club on sentiment, only on value to the team, skill, ability and potential. We've got more of the year years than you could ask for from him, but this year, and perhaps the end of last, has been too far for him. In my opinion of course.
As for a coaching role, it would be foolish to put a Poching or Demetriou in charge based on what they did for the club as a player and not on their proven record as a head coach.

Depends on how much he wants and how much we are willing to pay him.
This is a business, we also need to keep hold of the younger players. The money JD is on could go to upgrading the contracts of the young players that have come through into the 1st team. Rumours going around about clubs wanting Murphy, we could offer him more money (which based on performances he deserves) to keep him happy at the club. We might not be able to do that if JD stayed for another year.
I am sure the club will have thought about it for a long time, weighing up the pro's and con's. JK knows the worth of players so i'd stand by his decision.

one season too far think JD could do a great job for a club like Dewsbury or Batley next season but not SL

| Set him up as Head of PE at one of these new 'academies' of sporting excellence somewhere in Wakey and let him coach kids from 11 onwards, with help from Wakey, Cas and Fev players and coaches. Give it 10 years and Wakey and Cas will dominate SL! Only a dream, I know, but......
This guy has too much skill, bravery and RL brain to be lost to the game. He's given his best for Wakey, and I wish him and his family all the best for the future.

| A genuine nice guy who would make a great ambassador for the club going forward. Unfortrunately, if JD wants to play on for another year, sentiment goes out of the window and that can't be with Wakefield. Good luck JD with whatever you do in the future. You should always get a great reception back at the club.
ps. Keep the effort up until the end of this season.

| Will be gutted - but it had to come sometime and maybe the legs can't do what the head wants anymore .
JD is a modern day legend for the club and hopefully after his last year playing the club can find him a suitable position - it would be a waste not to have him around .
Many thanks Jason & good luck !

| He'll be living it large in Perpignan next year with JK, mark my words.
Meanwhile, unlike our former friend Mr Tronc, I can't imagine for a minute that JD will give anything less than 100% for his remaining games with Wakey; he's too professional and commited to do otherwise.

| I rate JD up with the likes of Nigel Bell and Willy Poching for the good memories he has given me with the obvious one already been mentioned numerous times but most of all his pure love for the game, his smile lights up the field on many occasions particularly against Cas away the one i remember best.

| Having just read the blog on the bbc website and discover that no one from the club has had the decency to speak to JD about his future could I ask someone to inform Riley that the incident he refers to was at the Challenge Cup game and not the first game of the season. (When the fans showed their true colours, and their selective amnesia when it came to a loyal servant and one who had an operation in the off-season).
While I quietly seethe ! Best wishes to Jason, you deserve the very best.( Hint - York City Knights.)

Take the emotion some add to the situation, understandably, and you have a player who is 34, been through the wars, picked up the knocks, and while he may be, quote, "starting to play a lot better," do you give someone a contract on sentiment alone.
We don't know how the club deals with players and contract renewals, and it's unfair to castigate them without knowing the story from both sides.

Well said, we don't know how the club sorts contracts out and JD's emotions will be running really high .

| My initial thought about how JD describes how he found out about his contract not being renewed was that the club seemed to have been a bit crass in their handling of the situation. After reading JD's comments again, his agent (the person JD has asked to deal with contract issues on his behalf) is the one who got in touch with the club to make initial enquiries.
Once contact had been made by the agent there would have been no point in the club saying "we'll get back to you" or "we need to speak to JD directly". If the club have been open from the start of the process then I don't think there is any real problem with what's happened.
I agree that it would have been nice for JK or Ted to speak directly to JD, but the harsh reality of sports contracts is that the players appoint agents for a reason and sometimes the agent comes back with bad news.

Exactly right, don't think JD does his own contract dealing so he can't have it both ways.

I dont think jd is angry just disappointed it came from his manager. He has given alot to this club and if that doesn't warrant the club to sit him down and explain, thier decision i dont know what is. He has said he understands and respects the decision and has no problem with the decision. I feel if just would have liked to have been treated like his efforts have been appreciated but he has am agent so bad luck as you say

I can see both sides of it and don't disagree with what you are saying, he does deserve the respect he's earned but you pay a agent to deal with contracts and clubs.

| Thanks for all your efforts J.D.
The most committed overseas signing I can remember.
My best memory will be the way he ran out of his own in-goal at Bradford, he has run his blood to water for this club, that’s all I could ask.
Good luck for the future.

| Maybe it's just a case of the club not having fully reached a decision, but when they are asked, they realise that it's now or never and so give the answer.
If we get to Newmarket, there will be a number of people who ought to be on the pitch to welcome Wakey out. JD would be one of them.
